You know what's funny? You bumped your text down past the advertisement, and it looks like it would have all fit just the same had you not gone through the trouble...

Did you see the new mobile office option Ford showed at Chicago? Pretty cool idea for people who work out of their truck (there are one or two in Alberta).

I don't know. I'm enough of a tech junkie as it is. I couldn't imagine having a PC in my car. |

What a shame that the 120GB one drops in processor power.... and 1.3MHz and 1.3MHz?!!? Like WTF. Cell phone is still quicker! LoL Would be to have tho! Do your taxes while driving   |

Actually their website has it listed wrong. It is actually a 1.3ghz cpu.
What would I do with it? Hrmm... Let's see....
I spend alot of time on the road, doing deliveries, road trips, driving vacations. The GPS and internet (google maps) would be handy for my hubby who is my navigator when were out doing deliveries. Being able to watch movies between deliveries would be cool. Being able to chat off of someone else's AP anywhere I drive the car to would be cool. The ability to use the camera feature.. Dashcam!!
Having it all fit into a single DIN!
Because I'm a geek and I really have to have it?
^^ That's the selling point right there... |

| So will it have XP installed or will you be forced to use the dreaded Vista? If it comes with VIsta, I suggest you run away quick :D |

This little machine is no where near stout enough to handle Vista.. Not like I would use Vista on any machine I touched anyways...
I'd most likely run a mobile linux distro... Who knows, maybe even dual boot with it...

Been doing some Wardriving?
I swear you could remain connected non-stop throughout the entire westend... Just need some software to be able to hand off the signal from one AP to the next seamlessly.

I dont do that ;)
but its still the best way to have an endless supply of any music you want.. listen to sonic, hear a song, google, bam, you've got it... IF i actually listened to something other than my Sirius.
yeah, if there was software for a Seemless AP transfer I'd have it. |

The idea has been around for some time. A few years ago it was called session initiated protocols or SIP.
The idea was simple, roam for APs constantly. As the signal weakened with your existing connection the next software would hand it off to the strongest AP.
The idea was to have the a vendor take the concept on and have it included in the 802.11 standard.
THere are hardware manufacturers making these chipsets that handle this.
I know some of the voip companies employ the similar idea within their products/networks.
For now it is as easy as installing an air card on the pc in your auto. That would work well with the product mentioned in this post.
Edit: Now you guys got me curious at where we are today with this technology.

I'd blame the crash on a blue screen. :p |

My CarPC kicks the shit outta that thing..
Ram is too low to have any kind of snappy interface. If you want OEM feel you don't want to be waiting for shit.
No addon cards. Onboard sound is shit. |

The Euro Train that goes through the Channel Tunnel/Euro Tunnel has seamless wireless AP handoff.. Not that I've tried it... But I watched it on Discovery and there was a blurb about it on BBC's Click show.. Neat!

:blushes: Awww thanks.... I'm just a geek... Always have been, ever since I got my first Vic-20 and hand programmed Oregon Trail and Asteroids and saved them to my "Data Cassette" I've been hooked.
I just wish I had more money to keep up with my obsession..... :dunno:  |

There is centrally managed wireless hardware that does seamless AP handoffs as you roam, we setup a solution from Aruba networks with a couple dozen APs, and it works very well. |
