Help! I broke my strut mount bolt! - Click HERE for Original Thread

ND4SPD
I was putting my front strut bar and into the last bolt....then suddenly POP!
one of my front strut bolt was half broken...

Fortunately, it was only half-broken...I can still bolt it in (only half of the bolt was in)...Is this SAFE?

AND I CAN't INSTALL MY FRONT STRUT BAR!

Do I have to replace the whole strut mount or just put a new bolt into it?

Hey ND4SPD,

Are you talking about the top three tower bolts or one of the bottom two camber adjustment ones? As long as you have enough teeth in the screw for the bolt to bite on and tighten, you should be okay to drive. As for your Strut bar, do you mean the sway bar? That fits under the control arm, and even though it looks like its touching on the jacks, once you drop the car to the floor, it will clear. Hope this helps.

if it's the bar that goes across & on top of your engine, just replace the bolt
don't do any crazy turns & etc

I'd say the same goes for under the car bolts

no biggy

Yes. its in the front compartment of the car where the spare tire sits. I can say its about half of the nut is STILL biting the bolt.

But Im not sure if this would be safe....I don't drive hard.

Yeah, but I wont be able to install my OEM top strut bar...which su#unfortunately I still can't go to any of the meets....got a busy schedule!ks!

Thanks Heeter...

Is the bolt welded into the strut mounts or it can be replaced? It doesnt say anything in the HAYNES manual.

Where can I buy the bolt?

Thanks for all the response. I really appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure that most, if not all, bolts are NOT welded into place.

I'm not completely sure of which car you are talking about (front compartment where spare sits??? MR2? Fiero?) but for finding a replacement bolt, can't go wrong with the dealer.

I wouldn't take the chance of going to Home Depot & mix-matching a bolt
how much does it cost anyways???? $0.25??? hehe

Anyone have spre "BOLT" or STRUT MOUNT?
