Just a side note... I'm not sure if you actually know the difference between the two, so I'll break it down really quick.
Guitar Hero is pretty much just a "guitar" game...where as, RockBand comes with 2 guitars, drums and a microphone. You sing, play the instruments, etc.

just a note, rock band comes with one guitar not two. You can play two guitars (electric and bass) in the game, but need a second additional guitar not included.
I agree, lame game but still bought it and having fun with it! Great drunk party game.

| Another thing I thought Id mention. You cant use the guitar from Guitar Hero with Rockband and vice versa. Weaksauce. |

Rockband Is better IMO.
You can single out what you play in the game, so.. You could JUST sing, Or, JUST play drums, etc... |

Real instruments and talent are better. Step away from the TV, kids. It's like thinking you're a wicked skateboarder because you beat Tony Hawk's Underground. |

Ugh, the misinformation on the thread is appauling...
But it is a car forum, so i guess it's only fair.
First off, RockBand is the better game, in every sense of the word.
The only redeeming part of GH3, reletively speaking, are a few of the songs and the wireless guitar.
Rockband has much better options for gameplay and is an all'round better multiplayer experience. Rockband used to have the smaller track list, but with the release of all the downloadable content it has long surpasses GH3. (the downloadable content can add up fast though, so watch out...)
Of course, Rockband has a substantially higher price in general... BUT! you get quite a bit of value from it. AND they have recently released statements that there will be no "new" versions of rockband, just expansion packs that you can purchase and download the new content directly onto a hard drive for play with the original version.
To understand why, it's very simple. Harmonix, the company that made GH1 and GH2, sold the series right to activision, who are intent on making money on it... lots of money, they are going to milk it for all it's worth, and they are not afraid to hide it. The newest anouncment of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith edition for release in April is certainly a sign of horrible things to come. Harmonix, on the other hand, decided to take the succesful portions of GH and port them into a VERY succesful Rockband. See how it works?
As for compatibilty, as of right now you can check out THIS PAGE for the state of affiars.
summary:
On 360, the GH3 guitar works with rockband, but the rockband guitar doesn't work with GH3. (blame activision)
On ps3, neither works with each other (blame sony AND activision)
Basically, the best thing to do if you really like the stuff, is to get GH3, for the controller, and then use it with rockband here on out.
As for the real intrument/talent thing...
You know, it's ok to have fun sometimes, right?
some people simply will not ever be able to play the guitar... nor do they want to slam down the money to purchase a good one and then get frustrated when they can't play it.
Rockband is perfect for just having fun with some freinds, and being able to listen and "play" some good music and then pack it up when your done... all for under $300 and being able to include 3 of your freinds. (more if you share.... but you won't ;P )
Cliff notes:
-Rockband > GH3 (except for the GH3 wireless controller)
-It's ok to have fun pretending... |

Another note, GH guitars work with rockband, but rockband guitar doesn't work with GH. Another reason rockband is better.
I have a real guitar so I'm only 50% loser. |

1 out of 10 can play a real guitar
9 out 10 can play GH/RB
guess who sits at home by themselves and thinks their cool? sure isnt the group of buddies playing GH/RB |

You're a goon. Sitting at home by yourself and playing guitar is a lot cooler than sitting at home by yourself and pretending you can, when you know you can't. It is the guy playing on a plastic five buttoned guitar who thinks he's cool but isn't. It's not a talent, it's make believe.
I understand the desire to play games, but it's one of those things you shouldn't try to replace with five buttons and a pick-toggle. Racing games make sense because how else can the general public get behind the wheel of a supercar? Or fire a rocket launcher, or slay a dragon, or play in the NHL, etc.
But for the cost of a game and a console a kid could have a decent guitar and become ten times more interesting. It would be like playing virtual bingo, vs. playing real bingo. It's not like bingo is an experience that is totally out of reach for the every day person.
And if you're one of those 1-of-10 who can play a guitar, why are you sitting at home by yourself when you could be jamming? Nothing helps if you're a loser by nature. |

So i guess that makes you a loser to the people who do stuff you cant? seriously. Becuase you can play a guitar, or drums, or even a clarinet doesnt make you cool. I know plenty of douchebags that can play instruments.
It doesnt make you cool for knocking someone who cant play an instrument but gets joy outta playing a game like GH or RB. Not cool at all.
And you say its not talent to have the hand/eye cooridination to play these games? thats obsured. No one is good at everything. having extremely good hand eye coordination is a talent.
What makes you guys so special that you can insult people who play this over a real guitar?
I cant play a guitar, but i'm sure i can do something you cant that you wish you could. Does that make me cool? nah, but atleast i'm not an asshole making fun of you becuase you cant. |

I don't really like either of them since they're pretty much DDR for white people. :D I know my friends really like RB since you can get a group of people together and just "rock" out. It's a group party game that pretty much anyone can try out, with or without experience.
As for this real vs fake guitar debate, who cares? If people are having fun, then let them. Being able to play an instrument doesn't mean you're talented. It just means you learned a set of skills and are able to utilize what you've learned. My music major friends have no problems with GH/RB. In fact, that's what most of their parties revolve around now. Why? IT'S FUN! |

I'm another of the group who plays a real guitar and has rock band. Totally different experience and set of skills. Both real and video game are lots of fun.
I'll bet there will be some amazing guitarists in 10 years who started out on rock band and then graduate to an electric guitar. Building grassroots interest in music is a good thing IMHO. |

I don't know where you got all that. I didn't call people who play either game a loser. I said people who sit at home alone are, and was talking about real guitar players. Besides, anyone that knows me knows I'm a loser. I'm a Dad.

I didn't knock anyone for playing GH or RB. Show me where I did. You're the one who started laying claim to who's cool.

Ok, I'll give you that. It's a talent. But it's a talent at pressing buttons rapidly, not playing an instrument. It's not a talent for making music. Do you say a kid who can adjust suspension settings in Gran Tursimo has a talent for tuning cars?

Again, no one said anything like that, and I know I'm not making fun of anyone.
The thread asked which was better.
This...
...or this?

I said this.

But go ahead. Keep putting words in my mouth. |
