What the shit? I don't fucking get this. Who the fuck is such a douchebag that they stiff someone else with their shit like that? I too have ended up paying for other people's shit many times too.
Oh, and don't be such cheapasses when tipping either. If your bill is $14.86, $15 isn't enough. $16 isn't enough, nor is $17. $18 should be the minimum on that bill if you're out with the big group. It can be a pain to serve so many people, especially when we often come in so late at night, so show them that you appreciate it.
Whoever you are that's skipping out though, you need a swift kick to the fucking balls, and I'm not joking around. |

When I used to serve (and at BP!), no matter how big or insistent my tables were, unless one person was paying the entire bill, I always separated the checks. I found that I usually got tipped better overall. I think it's because people would know exactly how much they have to pay since the total is in front of them and there's no way they can weasel out of not paying.
I found that with big groups, when people look at a bill, they tend to forget the little add ons and GST when calculating their own totals. I've seen guys take money back from the total because they thought the tip was "too much" or even take their friend's contribution when the friend is in the bathroom or something. (Great friends to have.)
Is it more work to separate the checks and do separate payments? A little, but as a server, I thought it was worth it. (And it was always fun telling someone that their friend didn't pay. :D) With the same group of people, if I give them one bill, the tip would be 10%. If I separated the bill, the tip would be 15%. Why? Beats me. Probably because no one bothered to check the total in the group.
I know separate checks happened at BP the one time I went, but to save all you responsible people grief, I would suggest doing separate checks ALL the time. And to the person who doesn't pay, you're an :asshole:! |
