What's the name of the coating that goes on the hood of the car to protect it from rock damage etc? And how much does it usually cost?

If you're talking about the clear thin film stuff its made by 3M and its called Rockguard (i believe).
Most tinting places offer it and you can get different combinations (ie. lip of hood, whole hood, bumper, side mirrors, or any combination thereof) |

Keep in mind dealerships have huge markups on this kinda stuff. Even if you can't get them to throw it in, ask for it at their cost... it'll be quite cheap.
BTW, i'd get the whole front end done if i were you and not just the hood... especially if you're getting it for free! |
