Long story short I want to dispute this parking ticket I recieved today. I dissagree with it deep inside my soul.
I was nailed for a $50.00 Section 622(2) I have been parking parallel there for almost a year and no issues. There is no indication of an angle sign parking sign and no markings on the road way. Infact the snow is covering most of the road. (just looked up 622 (2) a few minutes ago
My question is..
asides from calling the 496-5161 tomorrow at 8:30 am are there any other options for fighting this?
I notice that there is in bold print "FAILURE TO MAKE A PAYMENT MAY RESULT IN A VIOLATION TICKET BEING ISSUED AND PROSECUTION IN THE PROVINCIAL COURTS." If I can not fight this on the phone, can I let the violation ticket come to me and fight it that way?
The road is hardly wide enough to accomidate 2 lanes of cars, even more so when if the cars are to angle park?

Their is no way to fight it over the phone. If you call them they will just tell you to wait for the violation ticket in the mail.
Also it's worth calling them as they can give you some details on the ticket, as well as if a Police officer issued the ticket or if it was a bylaw officer |

Just to update,
I spoke with Gail at the ticket complaint line. She was very friendly and professional. I was very impressed with her responses and pro actively providing soloutions.
She advised me that it takes a few days for the ticket to come in and be set up on their system. They should be able to see it and the officer’s notes on the ticket when it is received.
Gail had advised me that I could call in again Friday when the ticket is in for more discussion (as more info surrounding it will be available), write a letter for review, or do not pay it and wait for the violation ticket to come in and chat with it on the court date.
With out knowing a lot of the situation, she had gone through a few scenarios of what may have been the case but encouraged me to call back to discuss it.
As an FYI, if you write a letter it can take 3 to 4 weeks to look into it. With that being said the ticket will go into a suspension status so no extra late charges will be put in place while the investigation is under way.
I will keep you updated.

Rob,
I have no issues paying for tickets that I feel I deserve.
The situation behind this…..
I have been parking in the exact same spot, the exact same way for almost a year. There have been no incidents, warnings, previous tickets.
There is no sign to mark it is angle parking, there are no lines to mark or indicate angle parking or otherwise.
There is a sign to mark angle parking near the end of the block close to 105 ave. This sign is also accompanied by meters however no reasonable person is going to walk 100 or so meters to look for a sign that may or may not be there. However I park near the corner of 106 ave and 102 st.
There are 12-15 cars that parallel park along with me.
I have taken photo’s of the location and my car after I noticed the ticket.
Hope this clarifies things for you princess.

I was able to track it down to City of Edmonton by laws. The ticket was issued by Parking patrol.

Ah yes, good old Bylaw 5590.
Their sections 621 & 622 are mirrors of the ROTR Regs, Sections 45 & 46.
So long as you can document that there are no signs present on the block, they don't have a leg to stand on. If it's a screw-up in regards to Section 621 (45) re: the distance from the curb that you were parked (in excess of 0.5m) -- likely due to snow, but that's not an excuse -- I'm not sure if they can quash / reissue a corrected ticket, as any police agency can for a moving violation.
Best of luck! |

Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for the clarification. Since receiving the ticket I have been angle parking.
Thanks for adding the additional signage.
Have a great day!

Mike,
The Transportation Department has confirmed the location the vehicle was ticketed, is angle parking. They will be adding additional signage to clarify the angle parking zone.
In this instance the collection process on this ticket has been stopped.
You are therefore relieved of any further responsibility relative to ticket #30762771.

Legal Good morning, I am writing this letter as I disagree with the parking ticket given to me on Feb 25 2008 for Improper Angle Parking Bylaw#5590 Section 622 (2) at W/S 102 S S of 106Ave
Upon reviewing the violation sited, I had decided to look for the signs which indicate Angle parking. I was able to locate a sign approximately 300 feet south of where I park. This sign is located by a building and indicates parallel parking for the meters. I park at the corner (West side of 102 St south of 106 Ave). There are no signs to indicate that there is angle parking required anywhere in that area.
No reasonable person would be expected to walk half the length of a city block to look for a sign that would indicate angle parking or otherwise.
I have been parallel parking at this location for almost a year in with out incident. There are usually 10-15 other cars that had parallel parked at the same location.
I look forward to your reply.

Agreed.
They have a job to do and it is not an easy one. I respect the fact that they need to ticket people who break the law.
However when I feel it is not justified, or the situation is very grey and other methods should have been used, then I will call them on it.
I also understand and respect the fact that the people on the other line who have to answer the calls of angry, ignorant, and belligerent people.
I try not to be one of those people.
I have found time and time again when dealing with issues, it is best to approach with respect and diplomacy. Should that not get the results I am looking for, I take it to the next level. :D
I was impressed that they investigated it very quickly. I was told it would be 3 to 4 weeks before they looked at it. I was fine with that.

Just an update..
This afternoon they installed 2 brand new angle parking signs with in close proximity to eachother.
Now if you do not angle park there you DO deserve to get ticketed. I take it I was not the only person who called the city on that poor call.
