New toy! - Click HERE for Original Thread

Stainless
Well, as my first vehicle purchase that didn't have a sub $3000 price tag, I decided to get a bug-eye WRX wagon. I think I found a gem, 2003 with only 71,000 kms.
All I can say is that I'm now addicted to boost and AWD. What a fun ride.
Can anyone give me input on ecutek vs. accessport? Cobb stage 2 looks easy to implement, but I'd rather run something a little more original.
If anyone is selling:
-Rims & tires
-Up pipes/Down pipes/Turbobacks (I have no problem with used)
-STi OEM parts (intercoolers, suspensions)
PM me with a price, and I'll get back to you.
Here are some pics:

Looks good man. Congrats.

My daily driver is AWD, and its just like summer time when I am driving around.

Nice car, congrats! Some light tint, and color matched skirts would make it look great. As far as "running something more original", screw that. Go with what had been proven.

And your "big" toy isn't so big, what is that? A 24" bunk? :p

If you go with COBB you need to realize one thing ... If you ever go further than stage 2 or want a protune the closest shop that can tune the Accessport is Rocket Rally in Squamish B.C. Lightspeed in Red Deer can tune Ecutek but there are also guys in Alberta who can open source tune for a small fee.

I went the COBB route when I first bought my Suby and I'm in the process of replacing it all with better options. If I could do it all over again I would have just gone with a full standalone like Autronic or the Element Tuning and Aquamist engineered Hydramist setup(map switching on the fly FTW).

It's a 48". Mostly for quick naps and baggage, I'm fancy and stay in hotels. It doesn't show in the picture, but it's also a loooong chassis. Rides like a dream on the shitty goat trails I'm on.

I agree with you to a extent..... Only thing is.... With a standalone EMS you lose the learning capability of your stock ECU, and In alberta with our drastic weather/temp/humidity fluctuations I would stay away from it.

Cobb and Ecutek are both fairly reputable and from my understanding havnt been maxed in tuning capability minus running auxiliary fuel injectors, which in 98% of the modification setups isnt required.

You wont really benefit from a Standalone EMS unless your running a fairly complicated setup.

Cobb is pricey, but has a great tuning interface, and phenomenal customer support. Also supports realtime flashing/data logging, Launch control, flat shifting, and numerous OTS maps.

Ecutek is cheap, and widely used by suby owners.... I dont have enough experience using it to comment though.

The COBB maps are getting to be pretty notorious here in Alberta for having knock issues(as has been extensively logged and shown by many in the Subaru community) even with the ACN maps and Husky 93. We have shitty gas here. If I was going to just stick with a stage 2 setup I'd go open source as there are MUCH better maps to be had going that route. There's a local guy (sunny aka airboy) who's been making a name for himself open source tuning peoples cars and he's good. He posts his logs and isn't afraid to show his work in comparisons with COBB maps/logs.

Autronic is the shit though. If you ever think you might get the mod bug bad and go big down the road it's hands down the best choice. There's a reason the top rally teams use it to win.

Knock issues can be corrected with adjusting the restrictor pill, porting the wastegates, and not running our shit husky 93 gas. Put Esso 91 in the car with a 91octane map and it will be fine.

I'll be running a FMIC/20g and all the supporting mods this year and I'll be sticking with Cobb.

Im not bashing open source at all... The only thing I said to stay away from was standalone if it wasnt absolutely necessary.

Swapping pills, porting wastegates and having to play russian roulette with gas choices (or even mixing toluene) isn't (imo) plug-and-play. I know you're not bashing open source and the accessport does have advantages but the fact they won't sell new licenses to tuners because their software is so bugged out atm should give people pause.

20g eh? td06? Who's doing your tuning?

Altezza
Nice grab man  im sure you will have lots of fun with it.

7cm 20g. PDX email tune to get me to the states, and a pro-tune there.

There so we stop cluttering up this thread.

You need to get rid of that crappy alli-arc cow kille on your big rig. Get something polished aluminum, like th ones i make :D

I installed my Autometer Ultralite boost gauge today, and was shocked to find that my car hits 14 psi like it's nothing. Floor it, overboost to 15-ish, and settles down to 14. I was expecting a few pounds less than that. I tapped into a nipple right off the manifold, so that reading is after the intercooler.

I am very happy to say the least.

I've got a set of samco i/c hoses, APS uppipe (the one with the flex fitting), rallyarmour mudflaps and a europerf wheelskin on the way.

I'm not too sure what I'm going to use for exhaust though. TurboXS stealthback is looking to be my favorite though.

Thanks for all of the comments!

Why not? There are already chips around the wells, and the rally armour flaps look better than any Canadian Tire special. Plus I'll be stylin' at the rallycrosses this year. :p

The wheelskin is black, and will be getting a professional stitch. I like the extra thickness, and it saves wear and tear on the OEM. It'll look like this, but installed better, and no color.
