Hey guys does anyone know where I can find this motor oil?
Castrol Syntec 0W30 European Formula AKA German Castrol, it says "made in germany" in the back instead of the US or Canada.
Thanks! |

| why not try Amsoil? Its a group 4 synthetic. |

hmm do you know where I can get the 0W30 ASL Amsoil?
the German Castrol is also a Group 4 based oil and people have had good results(oil analysis) in Nissan VQ engines.
I've searched many Canadian Tires and all they carry is the "Fake" Synthetic lol |

People that put this much effort and research into motor oil make me laugh.
AHHHHHHHHH hHAHAHAHAHHA.
Go to crappy tire and buy some mobil1 5-30.. Go home spend your time/money on something else. |

| I guess you're happy to use the grade 3 based fake synthetic in the Mobil1. Oil analysis results do show that Mobil 1 has one of the highest metalic content in the oil ..well at least for the VQ there is. I wonder where this metal is coming from... hmmm... |

Hi Kwanjie,
Sounds like you may be somewhat misinformed. You should talk to forum member "aarrgghh" who is an Engineer and member of the Z club and 350Z owner. He works at a company that does oil analysis locally, and he basically has a complete 2-story lab facility just a stones throw from his desk. He has done lots of his own research on what oils work best for him.
Some of us attended a tech session there just last week, and I can tell you after we talked at length with one of their senior chemists, I've got NO PROBLEM depending on Mobil 1 Synthetic.

GC or German Castrol can be found at Wal Mart and Canadian Tire. Just make sure it has "European" on the back.
Awesome oil, this stuff even has their own FAQ on bob:
Here
This stuff is a bit thick for winter even though it is a 0 weight. Most 5 weights will be thinner at most winter temps except at temperature extremes.
Personally I use Amsoil 5w30 in the winter and GC or Esso XD3 in the summer. XD3 is another sleeper oil that only Canadians can get which is designed for heavy duty diesels but works great in gassers. |

| How about Motul? I think speedtech sells it |

I think the point I'm trying to make is, regardless what synthetic oil you use.... You arnt going to notice a difference in engine wear in the time period you own the car. Maybe after 10 years or so.... But then your motor will probably be blown for another reason anyways. |

I found it at CT(Downtown location by the municipal airport) Thanks!
in terms of the oil analysis part, I've just been reading the This Thread ans basing my decision on which oil on some of this info. So how did the Mobil 1 Analysis come out? |

That is a fair argument but if I can do a little research and chose a better oil or a oil that makes me feel more comfortable in using... I think it's worth the time and effort to do it. Plus I found it at CT downtown so it wasn't all that hard :) |

| I've read that link too. Its interesting, but it is also very hard to make sweeping decisions on 1 sample of different oils run on different cars and sometimes tested at different labs (I'm constantly preaching proper stat use to customers we're helping analyze fleets worth of data). They don't even indicate which the test method was used for the elements and they are some potential differences between ICP and arc-spark. That said I've been running the Mobil 1 5W30 for about 2 years and have at least a dozen samples on it (I've tested my oil every change from day 1). Just so you know, Mobil 1's base oil is a group 4 straight PAO, not a hydrotreated group 3 like you think. I may try out the 0W40 as it didn't exist when I switched, but I switched due to the gear drive oil pump in the 350Z shearing the viscosity index improvers in most oils, this still occurs with the Mobil 1, but its base oil has such a high VI it doesn't have much of it and the 0W40 probably has more and will need early sampling to verify it stays in grade and properly protects the engine at operating temp. |
