Waiting for Spring - Click HERE for Original Thread

chico_kj_23
I dont know about all you but the weather in the last week has been bothering me. Its trying to be spring but its just a tease. It only makes me really wanna drive the 2. But im happy its not spring yet, i have way to much work left on my car. Anyways just curious if anyone else has done anything to their 2 over the winter so far. All i have done is get my springs and adjustable shocks, Kaaz lsd, 94+ tail lights, weds sport rims, and starting the prep work for my new paint in the spring. Still in the works are 93 turbo brake conversion, new turbo(and all the supporting stuff), tmic, sway bars, probably a bride seat and possibly a carbon fiber 98+wing(still cant decide if i wanna go wingless or not).

what the reason for going with a trunk mount?

chico_kj_23
i dont trust side mounts, and with the power level im hoping for its really pushing the limits of even one of the upgraded side mounts. air to water kits are quite pricy and i dont use the trunk so thats why ive decided on my own tmic kit.

I did most of my work at the end of last season, but MAN am I ever getting ready to have her out again. I have bushings, boost controller, boost gauge, and a couple other suspension goodies on the way, and maybe I'll add a thing or two after that. Ordered an exhaust but got my $$$ refunded and had to eat the visa foreign currency surcharge. Fuck that.

Trunk mount? What turbo are you getting to go for that?

chico_kj_23
Its not so much that i need it, i would just feel alot more comfortable with it. I wanna be in the 300+whp range and with our higher altitude i just wanna be safe. As for the turbo, i havnt quite decided on that yet. I still may do a-w but not sure. Why does everyone think im crazy for trying a tmic! I dont really care, i just wanna see if i can do it. I like trying to design things.

I dunno about crazy, just it's a lot more work. I'm not real keen on cutting up my car, but then I do use my trunk from time to time.

mr2boi
because smic have been proven to be effective to 300whp and above I believe.

meh

Yea I think it is good up to 400, and people have taken them higher.

As for me I got soo much work to do, with Zero time available.

chico_kj_23
i was looking at the new ats side mount and i think i may try that before i cut up my trunk. they seem to be selling it at a very reasonable price.

Tech2
I was looking at the emspowered one as well. Same price, haven't checked for differences in components though. Think the ats doesn't come with a blockoff shroud, but the ems powered one needs 50$ to upgrade the fan. Something like that...

mr2boi
they are all SS or XS autochrome cores i believe. you can find those on ebay

Tech2
Wonder what it would cost to put together your own kit, decent hoses, connectors, shrouds, fans, time, etc. Could you undercut the ready made kits enough to make the no warrantee worthwhile?u

No you can't.

EMS Powered had their kits on sale for $399.99 and that could not be beaten. I did the math on it. I am not sure about their price now of $549.99

Tech2
I'd still want to go that way just for the warrantee.
