Good Shop For WRX? - Click HERE for Original Thread

TrevorK
My friend just took his 02 WRX in for the 72K "checkup". They did an alignment and whatnot, but now his car handles COMPLETELY different.

He's looking for a decent shop to bring his car to from now on. What places in Edmonton are good with WRX's? I haven't seen any WRX shop cars at the track....

Which track are you talking about, b/c there are alot of suby guys at the solo II's. WRX isn't really made for a drag strip.

As for the alignment, maybe it was wacked prior to getting it checked up. An alignment WILL change the handling of a car, now the question is did they do it to stock specs or is it to some custom set up, and does he like it or not.

there's not one shop that deals really good w/ subies. Tell your friend to check out N. Amerian Subaru Owners Club and post in the Canadian forum. The local Etown is very active in that forum and they can give you/him the good and bad.

Yeah - I tried to tell him that the alignment is what is causing his problems. It's really bad though - he squeels the tires around the corners now, even got pulled over taking a corner at 20KM/H after.

I figured the guy before him either had a custom setup, or it was really out of whack. But either way, my buddy HATES it, but I don't know how Rally Subaru will fix it since they no longer know what the old settings were....

Rally doesn't have an alignment rack, but the stock settings for all cars are in the owner's manual, so anybody can do it. Especially the dealer, since it's their car.

If he's squealing the tires, then he's probably driving the car too hard and has crap tires. Mind you the stock tires are crap.

He doesn't have stock tires - he has some Toyo's (I assume those don't come stock).

Also - he said right when he got it back he noticed a difference in everyday driving - like doing 20KM around a corner....

I don't suppose he has adjustable suspension setup?

schlong8
He might, if the previous owner did something.

What's happening at 20kph?

The car seems to really shift the weight to one side when he turns at 20KM/H. You see one side raise, and one side dip - I can take a turn more gracefully in my Eclipse or Talon than he can.

Plus they give a squeel around the corners at that speed....Just a little one.

Well, the WRX does have relatively soft suspension for stock. I can't really tell what's up. Go to the Suby meet this Saturday at Rally Subaru, and talk to some of the suby owners........they could probably tell since they can see it in person.
