cotter pins - Click HERE for Original Thread

Prudz_lude
i cant get two cotter pins out of two castle nuts. They were pretty rusty and the ends broke off. I used pb blaster and nothing. The ends you can normally grab with plyers are jammed in there as well. To top it off normally when you turn the castle nut it would just break them at this point. However, it is just spinning not doing anything.

I can't use heat since i need the balljoints intact. This is the whole point of this mission to get the castle nuts off. Help me please.

Use a small drill bit and drill through the nut forcing the cotter pins out? Worse case scenario you scuff up the factory holes a little bit...

why dont u get a chizzle small enough and tap it out?

Tried that, it would not budge for some reason. I am going to go try and tamper with it some more. Keep the ideas coming.

get another pin and tap the old one out. align the holes perfectly so the broken ends dont snag on anything your gonna have to use your eyes and light real good to see which end it will come out easier. there no reson for it go get stuck in there unless its seized int hat case stray it down with wd40 and let it sit for a couple mins and try again.

just cut it on either side of the nut with some wire cutters. once you get whatever off your trying to, then worry about whats left in the small hole.

if you're turning the castle nut and its just spinning, thats bad... stick a crow bar in between the tierod and whatever its sticking into, see if you can get pressure on it sideways or up and down to keep the ball from just spinning. :dunno: i had this happen on a really old crx and it was the worst experience of my life trying to get the castle nut off.

Yah.... the situation gets worse. To top it off there is literally no other suspension on the car. Only the lca, and the kunckle that the balljoint is attached to. Zero tie rods etc....

from the sounds of what everying else is saying, im totally lost on this topic.

haha goodluck!

yah, my main reason to try and get this stuff off is because it is going to cost me 700 if i don't. I need them for tomorrow so my new car can finish its oop and have its inspection papers signed.

the ball part of a knuckle is loose and spinning in its socket so he cant get the castle nut off... do you have a ball joint puller that you can cram in between the knuckle and the LCA to get pressure upwards on it? :dunno:
