no hood....illegal? - Click HERE for Original Thread

arabian_ryda
is it illegal to drive around with no hood? on say a show car no that it really matters lol.

and what are the laws like for air horns that are for show?

Beerking
A couple summers ago me and two buddies were driving around, both of them had their hoods off since it was so hot out and the other guy could not fit his hood on since he was doing a pick your part turbo build. But anyways two of us got pulled over by the police b/c we chased some lil fuckers in a '78pontiac b/c they threw their cigarette butts into my friends engine bay while we were driving. That pissed us off and we went chasing them, kids got scared and called the police and we got pulled over. Cops said nothing about the hood not being on, so it should be ok then.

BLOCKER
As long as your hood latches work :dunno:

Hood latches

66(1) A motor vehicle’s hood that opens from the front must have a primary and a secondary hood latch mechanism.

(2) The secondary hood latch mechanism must prevent the hood from opening if the primary hood latch mechanism fails.

(3) This section does not apply to motor vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1971.

This is all I could find in the vehicle equipment regs in relation to hoods

sweet my car was built in 1969. but still could i get a noise or disturbing the peace for excess engine noise due to no hood? or stunting?

BLOCKER
As long as the noise is not rediculous... don't drive like a tool or give the police any other excuse to pull you over...

arabian_ryda
fair enough. how about the dual air horn/trumpet?

Prudz_lude
i drove my prelude around without a hood for 1 summer. Got pulled over once and they did not care at all. sat at lights with serveral others and they just stared and drove off.

2ndgenlude
i read on here awhile ago about it being illegal due to the washer nozzles being on the hood. unless they are on the wipers themselves. not sure on this, i just remember a similar conversation.

GOT BOOST
As long as you grow a mullet you should be fine with out the hood.

You need a horn on your car....

arabian_ryda
of course. i was going to leave my factory horn on the car and then have the dual air trumpets on a switch? but i remember some1 saying there illegal to have? maybe u can shed some light of this as they do make a double/triple sound effect almost like a song?

lol... Say that to his face.. :p

Anyway.. I think It MIGHT be illegal for the Washer Fluid Nozzles.. But if you want.. Just zip tie something to the wiper arm.. like the hose.. and call it a day.. That way.. If by chance you get splashed.. or something outrageous.. You can wash your window.. and still see..

You are probably ok in that regard just due to the fact that the police aren't going to know where the washer nozzles are located on your specific car.
On an older car like your Datsun you are probably fine in terms of tickets, but there may be some other side-effects. There always is the possibility that if you try to make an insurance claim for personal damage (on yourself) they may somewhat decrease or void your policy. If you or someone else get injured because something flew out of the engine bay you may have some shit to deal with. But, if you aren't driving around all the time and it isn't your DD you should be ok. I dont see why you would want to take off the hood on your DD anways; all it takes is some faggot messing with your engine in a parkinglot and your engine is done.

arabian_ryda
my engine is going to be all detailed and most of it will be chrome or polished. its not my dd but it would be nice to take it one or two nights this summer with no hood and cruise around town.

Geofux
Are you talking about your Datsun?

arabian_ryda
ya

Geofux
I want to see that.. hope you bring it to the meets :p

I drove a summer with no hood. Never a problem. Numerous cops saw it..

Only problem i had is when it rained on the way to bud park.. Had the coil pack cover off so it went striaght onto the coilpacks..

The triple air horns you see people upgrading to work to make a chord, different rail companies use different chords. A song would be pretty lame.

AudiInProgress
A song would be awesome.

2ndgenlude
they had that one kit that you could program it to say whatever you wanted. now i have to find the link....

fugumerkur
I drove my rustang without a hood last fall and noone cared.

I couldn't grow a goddamn mullet though, would have worked out nice.
