| I was cruising down 156st yesterday, saw a guy driving a black Audi R8 in this weather. Really nice car, guy's a tool for bringing it out this time of year. Anyone else see it? |

Anyone know the sticker price on it? It wasn't posted at the Autoshow R8 that was displayed. And yes it is a nice car.
EDIT $150,000 bucks, not bad for a sweet ride anybody think this is better than an NSX? |

| I would drive an R8 in this weather... :dunno: |

Haha an R8 is twice the car of a NSX!

What exactly is so bad about bringing out his car in this weather? |
|

| The risk of damage due to icy conditions, gravel, sand, pot holes, should I continue?? :D |

It might have something to do with the car being over $150,000 and since the roads are covered with dirt and rocks...yea. Ruining paint on a $150k car is kinda a big deal.

| I'd totally drive it in this weather. I'd take an R8 in a second over an NSX |

I'm with graphicdude and ek9hatch on this one.
I don't even let my Z see winter conditions, let alone a $150k car!!
In fact I hate the normal beating that my lowly daily drivers get from our winters... but that's just an unfortunate fact of life with living in our climate. |

I would baby the shit out of that car. I completely understand when people say "its meant to be driven, etc" and I respect their opinions. But for me, I would cry if I even had a surface scratch on it...so it would only be out on perfect days.
If I was a billionaire on the other hand...maybe I would have one just for "shitty" days.

I guess it depends on how much money you have.
My car doesn't even see winter, and rarely even see's rain.
I've always thought though, that if I was filthy f'n rich I would have a Lambo for my winter car. With AWD and winter tires they'd rock. I'd love to do it, just becasue I could.:thefinger |

| There are currently three Audi R8s sold within Edmonton. |

| Saw the black one on yellowhead in january, when it was really shitty snow. |

i seen a R8 parking in china town late last summer, bunch of asians standing around it, im assuming one of them owns it.
Also to the point about driving a 100K$ car in the winter... ive seen a black M6 twice being driven this winter. i even just seen it recently at the cineplex in the north end. it was all dirty and looked like it had not been washed in weeks. |

| Saw a black one about a month ago on Argyll. It was dirty as hell... Saw another one in Nurburg last year. Love the car and all but not exactly sure on the comparison of the NSX and R8. Come on now, the NSX was designed almost 2 decades ago and has its own legacy. The R8 on the other hand, is a brand spanking new piece of automotive/technological art that hasn't been in the automotive and racing world long enough to create its own legacy or significant fanbase. I can't compare the two in any way...they're two vehicles of completely different caliber. |

I honestly didn't find the snow, gravel and sand that bad. And the Potholes are just as bad in the summer so that makes no difference to me. Oh well, I guess I'm part of the minority on this topic.
Btw, I purposely bought an AWD sports car so that I COULD drive it all year... not that I would use it as a daily driver, but I got really tired of parking my car for 6 months of the year.
And yeah, I've seen a few R8s, Porsches and an NSX driving around in the middle of winter... I wasn't surprised till I saw the NSX though. |

| Why...as the NSX and R8 are all aluminum...no rust to worry about. |

I still think you can compare the 2 based on price, mid engine configuration, both have about the same HP except for the AWD aspect.
If you had 150Gs to spend on a car personally I would have a hard time deciding which one to get. Hell why not throw the new GTR in the mix. I got a new thread brewing :) |

I've never understood why people act like its a crime against cars to drive expensive vehicles in winter. I mean, its not like using the Mona Lisa as a cutting board....while both are beuatiful, theres still a fundamental difference between priceless works of art, and exotic cars... one was made with a very functional purpose, and if the owner has the dough to buy it, he has every right to drive it wherever and whenever he wants. |

True enough and if I had deep pockets I also would say Who fucking cares if I drive my 150G car in shitty winter weather. But I think given we are all middle class citizens that can only dream of owning a car like this, we appreciate what we have and take care of it a little too much (which is a good thing).
Myself, a car is an investment and I like to protect/baby my investments. That means regular washes, using high end motor oil, regular polishes, etc. Because like everyone else here, I am car crazy and passionate about automobiles and the ones I own. Our philosophies on automobiles will be different from a guy who makes over 500Gs a year.
That's what makes threads and topics like this a good conversation. :D |
