joker
Hey
Ive been having come problems with the resolution on my laptop. I have a Dell 640m running Vista and when I open it up after being in standby my resolution drops from 1440x900 to 1280x720.
Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to keep it it from doing that?
Thanks

Open Task Scheduler ( All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Task Scheduler)

Then go to "Task Scheduler Library/Microsoft/Windows/MobilePC" .

Then disabled "TMM"

You're welcome Aaron, and Jeff - presuming this fixes his problem as well.

Uhhh, my laptop is fine. Just commenting on your help desk skilz...

I've been doing tech for ~7 years professionally... What can I say?I usually don't have the patience to deal with people in person or over the phone... For clients I force myself to be professional - and I'm damn good at it. But family members or friends, most of the time, I feel like telling them to fuck off and figure it out themselves.

However. Tech questions posted online, I can read and/or respond to at me leisure, and it's quite enjoyable.

Ill give that a try thanks Rob

No problemo Jeff... If it doesn't work (there's always that slim chance) just post back and I'll toss out some more ideas.

I tried it and it worked for the day but when I opened it up today after work I got the same change.
Any other suggestions I can try?

AudiInProgress
Well, glad to know it worked for a day, haha!

I would suggest, in no particular order...

BIOS Update
Un-install video driver (if video driver was updated through microsoft)
Install video driver directly from Nvidia

Start with those, post back if you need more help, and then I'll really dig my heals in.

Thanks man, Ill give that a try over the weekend and let you know how it goes.

No worries... This is a pretty common issue with Windows Vista, from what I've learned, and you're lucky the problem isn't worse...

Windows Vista likes to grab video drivers from the Windows Update website (during automatic updates) and they tend to wreak havoc with our PC's.

Especially if you run an ATI video card. My media center and 2 of my friends media centers running Vista Ultimate (as well as friends who run Vista on their gaming machines for DX10) have noticed lots of problems with crashing/random rebooting.

So actually, I would recommend checking the current driver first, and downloading the most stable release for your mobile video chipset directly from Nvidia...

Only if that fails to resolve your problem, try the BIOS update, though... I guess it never hurts to have an up-to-date bios either.

Give it a shot man, and let me know, I'm happy to help.

:D
