HD dead? - Click HERE for Original Thread

anschutz_93
Well I accidently left my laptop running in my car for a couple hours after datalogging (read: I left the laptop running all of saturday  ). I tried to turn it off and i got a blue screen of death... said something about redirecting memory or something. Turned it off and didn't bother with it until monday.

Monday: computer runs fine for a couple hours on the internet, clicking and buzzing noices comming from HD area. Indicator light keeps telling me the HD is buisy. After about two hours it freezes (can still move mouse if that means anything) but then it goes to blue screen and reboots. It was about 1am at this point so I turned it off and went to bed.

Tuesday: Clicking/noise from HD area continues when loading on start up, noise decreases or increases if you change angle of laptop. Loading takes a long time but once programs finally launch (ei internet explorer) they launch normally.... but then I get blue "uhh shit" screen. Tried launching in safe mode... waited...waited nothing. Launched in normal mode and now its fine again. Computer indicated cpu usage of under 10% even when shit isn't loaded. Im actually posting this right now from the laptop and it is running fine but every now and again it will stop typing.... wait... it catches back up.

Am I correct in assuming this is a HD problem? lol my only indication is the noise its makng. When it isn't making the noise (like at this percise moment) it is 100%. Fucking computers. :drama:

If it's making a lot of un-usual noises, then yeah, chances are the HDD is on its way out... I would pull the drive, back it up, then scan it... And replace it.

If you can still get it backed up, do it while you can.

over extended use of your laptop isnt bad..

you had it plugged into your power adapter in the car or how was it drawing its power?

any voltage change may have given it a bounce.
was it possible the weather was cold enough to give the laptop a quick freeze, and while it was running may cause condensation.

I know my laptop has run a Record Uptime of: 2m 2d 22h 19m 9s, without any problems. and usually is up and online for a minimum of 12-17 hours a day, otherwise its in hibernate, and plugged in to a power source.
