Bus lane ticket - Click HERE for Original Thread

e46
just got a ticket for being in the bus lane. i was on the way to school and an officer just stepped out into the street and pulled me over. $172.

i think its pretty rediculous that police officers are wasting their time giving tickets like these, arent they suppose to be making our streets safer? i dont see how keeping people out of a bus lane will make streets safer.... but ok..

how can i fight this ticket? any input would be appreciated

quick_gold
You were in the bus lane, and you got a ticket for being there when you shouldnt be. What would be your excuse to fight the ticket?
Just man up and pay for the ticket.

Holy shit, i have no idea how i managed to be polite in my answer cuz nothing drives me more crazy like ppl cutting thru the bus lane on 109 st on a busy morning thinking they are better than all of us.

And please give me a break with all the "doesnt police have anything better to do?" guess what its their job to enforce the law whether you like it or not.

HEWSINATOR
Is that an HOV lane too on 109th? Or only bus/taxi/bike.

quick_gold
whats HOV?
On 109 its a bus/taxi/bike between 7.00-9.00 am northbound.

this was 97th street going southbound.. they were in the KFC parking lot... which is weird, i could just go to the courts and tell them that i was making the next turn into the gas station.....

i know usually they have a spotter that sets up ahead and tells them which cars to pull over, but they didnt have one this time because one of the officers accdently pulled over a taxi and then let him go after he realized it was a taxi

Hilarious. I see the cops attempting to pull ppl over. 98% of the time you should see a cop standing at the turn before the trap. If you see him, turn on your right signal light and turn at the next road, regardless where it goes.

They did have a spotter.... or you wouldnt have gotten a ticket. You just didnt see him.

And you arnt going to be able to fight it. Pay the buck, lesson learned.

the officer pulled over a white van..... and when the can pulled over the officer saw the taxi sign on the side and let him go..... if there was a spotter he would have seen the taxi

Or he let the cabbie off. Which is likely. Cops are more lenient towards ETS and Taxi services.

Isn't it a Bus & Taxi lane? If so i would hope he let him off.

Cops really need to rethink the whole step out in front of a 3500lbs piece of steel doin 60km/hr.

They think that badge is gonna protect them when that typical edmonton driver playin with there coffee mug and lipstick plows them over?

You keep arguing.. OK two of us now told you to pay up. If you are so convinced that you can (edit: fight it) then go fight it. You might get a reduction.

God.. you did the same thing about the summer tire thread too.. you asked if u can put them on.. Everyone said you probably shouldn't even if there was no snow but u still kept arguing. Why the fuck do u bother asking then? Do what suits you.

HEWSINATOR
HOV is high occupancy vehicle- "car pool lane"

Ahahahaha i really hope you realize that those bus lane rules only apply from 7am-9am. After 9am traffic can drive in there. That is until you reach whyte ave. When i drive down that lane at 9 am and there is still heavy traffic i laugh soooo hard at all the idiots who don't realize that lane is open. There is a sign every block (literally) pointing out that it is only from 7am-9am that you can't drive in it.

maybe the people are better than you, maybe not better but at least smarter. That is assuming you are driving after 9am or before 7am. Anywhere in between is fair game for tickets and i agree, there should be no complaints if you get caught.

yah aaron, those are ets and taxi lanes. They should never get a ticket.

AudiInProgress
Nice of you guys to be so civilized...

If you're going to drive in a bus lane during peak hours (when you're not supposed to) then expect to pay fines. Or like Aaron said, you can try to be smart and just take a right-hand turn if you see the cop step out and want to wave you over, because really - they don't know if you were intending to go right anyways or not.

I think it's just better to man up, pay the ticket, and learn from your mistake.

quick_gold
I know you didnt put on our summer tires (i read the thread) would have been reall funny though if u had put them on.
But it sounded like you were arguing, its the fucking emotionless internet grrrrr.

Anyhow.. just pay the ticket. If you decide its worth fighting, you might get a reduction. I read in the paper a few months ago of a lady who got ticketed for the same reason at the same place and she fought it to get a reduction. It very unlikely you'll have it thrown out though.

There you go lesson learned. Its better this way than being next to me in the bus lane and you try to cut in to avoid a stopped bus but i shut the door and you slam on the brakes or in the back of the bus.

Yep right lane FTW after 9.00 am.. I am never on the road before 7.00 though..
Just remember to swing back in the middle lane around University Ave, parking is permitted there after 9.00 too. There is always someone parked there in the afternoon.

e46
thanks guys... im gonna fight it just to get at least a reduction, i think its pretty rediculous that is 172 dollars.... thats how much a ticket is when going 20 over the speed limit(which i understand endangers lives)

So why were you in the bus lane?
