Tranny leak - Click HERE for Original Thread

BlueTurboEGG
I have a leak from the tranny where the gear shift bar enters the transmission.

I think this is called the "impact shift seal"

Apparently this problem is well documented but there has been no recall on this on earlier Nissan cars with the FWD SR20DE.

Can anyone help me fix this?...

I can't... but I also have a tranny leak, I think it's leaking from where the speedo cable enters the tranny... It's driving me nuts!

yours is easy, just tighten the nut on the top, should stop the leak

We're gonna have a look at it tomorrow... see what's up?! Hopefully fix it...

Hmmm, I think I was having the same problem. I ripped apart my counsol aroudn the shifter and the dust boot over the actual point of where the shifter enters the tranny was off. I put the boot back on and the leaking stopped, well at least the dripping on the floor stopped. So maybe you and I have the same problem. Are you feeling problems with the leak, like mechanical ones? Noticing things? or just the dripps on the floor?

try that ranny stop leak shit< yah it sounds cheesy but it might just be enough to stop it without having to take your tranny out and fix it

Apparently this is a known and well documented problem on the SE-R mailing lists.

I just don't have the tools neccessary to do it.

Aaron, I'm willing to bet it is the same problem, the leak is still occuring but I AM losing tranny fluid, and the shifts are not quite as smooth.

I'm leaking expensive BG stuff on the floor!.

It involves hammering some sort of locking pin off, I'll post the email tomorrow.

Jared still has my FSM for the SR20 motor :P

I have an infiniti G20 (1999) FSM, would there be any useful info for you there?

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the shift linkages totally different between a FWD and RWD layout? :dunno:

You are completely right, Inzane.

Yeah, but if they are using the same crappy seal (Which is called Strike Rod Oil Seal... I was close) and the strike rod boot, it will fail the same way...

redbaron303
I found out mine was a small seal that was leaking... so it's being resealed tomorrow since the part wasn't avail. today...

:finger: That is what I have to say for the person who said "don't worry about it, it's not serious..." And now my syncros are gone, my tranny shifts funny, and some other stuff that is a result of having virtually no tranny fluid in the tranny b/c it all leaked out, but it wasn't something to worry about! f@cking idiots!
