K so blood is normally blue, but when exposed to oxygen it turns red.... so my question is, if you were to bleed in space, would it be blue???

AudiInProgress
If you were to bleed in space... That means you'd be outside of the space shp, outside of your space suit, and dead... So would it really matter?

STiPWR
You answered your own question. No oxygen, blood stays blue.

Ruiner
first,
if you were in a space suit and started to bleed, it would be red.

now, since space is Cold, your body would freeze before blood even got a chance to flow.

Thats what I was going to say....

Assuming you could keep your blood from freezing, it would still be red since most of the blood under the surface of your skin is already oxygenated. If you were to make a good sized cut into a vein, it would still look reddish, just darker than normal. However, I don't think you'd have an opportunity to examine what color it is since the vacuum of space would have rendered you dead long before blood started exploding from every which oraphice you have exposed....

Space is cold, Yes. But because space is empty, you would only lose heat by radiation. It wouldn't be the cold that would get you, but the lack of pressure. The lack of pressure also lowers the boiling point of liquids, so if you did bleed into space, the water would vaporize and not freeze.

There's some interesting theories on how long you could survive in deep space. If you ever find yourself in that situation, remember to breathe out as hard as you can.

the reason for this is the incorrect gaseous atmosphere and not completely pressure related.

I thought of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, not total recall :D

I was disappointed that it didn't follow very true to form of the book. You don't reach the end of the story Adams is trying to tell in novel form untill after 1000 pages of reading, and they try and condense it into 90 minutes for a movie. I loved marvin and mos def as ford prefect though :dunno:

Hey I go to your second cup at least 3 times a day. If you are talking about who I think you are (slim blond). She is #2 on my best latte list.

Oh.... and to qualify things. You are far from pretty. :D

Back on topic.

- blood is NOT blue. When you see blood through your skin it looks blue. Even with no oxygen content it is actually maroon/dark red at best. Bright red if highly oxygenated.

- water in space has different phase shifting properties. If you were to quickly expose water in space it would vaporize into droplets but those droplets would quickly freeze. It should go straight into a frozen state but space has strange properties in regards to conductance of heat/cold. A phase shifting diagram of water displaying PVT would show these anomalies.
