Speedway Performance Lapping / Time Attack Schedule - Click HERE for Original Thread

SpeedwayRacing
http://www.speedwayperformance.org/...008Schedule.pdf

We cut it back to 10 dates from the 13 that we had planned. Hope to see you guys out there.

Inzane
How are these "Time attacks" set up with respect to the event insurance? Are these technically Solo 1? (hence NOT a "school", and they will be timed?)

SpeedwayRacing
They are timed events, running 4-5 cars on the track at the same time using a DB comm transponder system. Running in 10 Minute Heats. 2 Classes Race and Street Tire. Any Tire with a tread rating under 140 will be considered a Race tire.

Only the first event is a school. All other events are just open lapping or timed events. The time attack events would technically be a Solo1 yes.

95IntegraRS
What will the cost be for the time attack events?

Spoonin

prolly same as last year anywhere from 100-150 im guessing

SpeedwayRacing
Well, I think it might be slightly more for the full day time attacks, but we are going to try and keep the costs as minimal as we can. Right now it looks like the full day events will be $160 and the half day ones will be around $90.

Don't worry though, spectators get in free so you won't be paying anything more ;)

95IntegraRS
LOL

Very professional.

SpeedwayRacing
I would love to see you come out man, I will PM you the second that we have registration up.

95IntegraRS
Thanks

zhao
will the school meet the requirements for a solo license from wcma?

SpeedwayRacing
At this point no, we are looking into it. I don't think that statotech is large enough to get up the speeds required for us to run a license school :(

There is always the school in calgary in the spring..

ae1969
I will try and work my schedule around this and make all these events.

Could you PM me as well.

Thanks

Alex
Silver 944 Turbo

I need a tire sponsor .... and a brake sponsor. Something tells me my car will be going through alot of pads and rotors with ~300hp.

God I can't wait to get out on the track!

300 in your corolla? lol better get a cage sponsor first (and life insurance lol)

Mike let me know when the wcma lisence school registration is open.

btw the schedule isnt working

SpeedwayRacing
I think the main problem dean is that your still suck back in the early 90s with your internet connection. Its working just fine for me.

NYGACR
Schedule works fine here.

See you guys there. I should have my ice racer setup for IT2 by then. Watch out.

No chance, phone i-net not dial-suck. Whatever I'll get the info later

SpeedwayRacing
I will send a copy home with your wife some time next week. ;)

Got one.

April 20th a timed event, mother fucker thats soon, why not a practice first?? Def wont have the big turbo ready by then:(

SpeedwayRacing
Come to the school, that way you will know if your new turbo isn't going to blow your car up.

Also, there is a points championship this year. If your planning to attend the timed events. Trophy at the end ;)

NYGACR
Can we pay for two entries and run in both classes like ice racing?

LOL must be nice....can i borrow them haha

SpeedwayRacing
I don't see why not. Your looking at a extra $20 to run both classes though. IMO the car will be a lot more likely to win in street tire as you will see at least a couple GT1 cars in the race tire class. They tend to be a little faster then the IT cars :)

Why would you want to, other than for more time on the track I guess...?

More likely to break things imo, not that I worry about that shit either though.

Race tire is a joke as Conroy destroys everything (can we kick him out?:p ) I guess I race to win and race-tire is to hardcore

NYGACR
I know I'll get spanked in race tire regardless of what I run, I just want the seat time.

Conroy was not much faster then Trent last year. You have to remember he is a experianced driver, driving a real race car. If we do see more of the WCMA GT cars out I think he might have something to worry about.

SpeedwayRacing
I thought I would post this up for everyone interested in coming out to our track events this year. Yes some of it can be really basic for some of us. But it shows you some skills that will help you go faster and goes threw a check of a car when getting it ready for a lapping day or time
attack.

I hope to make it out to a few events of yours. I have not run Stratotech with a car since 2002. it was fun.

Remember it's not bumper cars, haha. I need tires and lots of other parts, I need to sell a kidney.

charger_guy
I hope my fc is ready to go, definetly plan to make it out.

mattEG
So there has been a lot of chit-chat in regards to classing and how to control seat time versus car count.

I think in the end it's going to come out to 1 class per driver so as to keep regular car counts and maintain the large amount of track time we're seeing per person. We've got a responsibility to maintain a high standard for our competitors, and we juts can't do that with that many folks running that many classes.

Unless of course you want to pay regular fees for each class, then there is no stopping you.

edmontonGTI
Just wondering, when and where will the registration forms be available. Thanks for all your help guys.

That sounds reasonable.......

katrink
It also allows people that are not driving a fully built racecar a chance at bringing home a trophy which I personally like.

WHAT!? Thats backwards.

You mean it allows Conroy two trophies instead of one as fully built racecars will compete against mild mannered street cars if they pay twice..

Unless you can't run for points in both classes and have to chose one, then it makes sense, and is a great idea so I can try out my Ra-1's.

mattEG
I think the way it's going to work is one driver, one class.

4kruzn
don't worry conroy cant drive he's old!!!

but i think thats probably best what matt said. one car, one driver, one track, one winner......

in each class...

Slow Cruiser
does anyone know the price of the April 19 school day? And would we get a deal if a person did school and then went the april 20 race?

I cant see a discounted price for attendng both days as they will have no problems filling the field.

Race day will prolly be 160ish, not sure on the school though.

katrink
With the school your likely going to be looking at around $200 for the day, the following day will be $160. I would love to give a discount. But as Dean said we have had no issues filling the field in the past. Since we are running a points series this year we won't be offering a discount or priority placement in the time attack event. Its first come first serve.

i'm running a 92' mitsu Lancer EVO GSR, modified for track use (still streetable) i wanna crack this out on the track, can someone PM me for registration.

Cody D
I'd also like to be notified about registration, I'm running a Huffy that's been modified for track use (no longer street legal).

Sorry 92LancerEvo, had to do it.

SpeedwayRacing
its funny you posted that, last spring they were actually running a race using bikes just like that at race city when we were there for the race school

I'm sure the car is capable, you'll probably be another car that beats me, I just thought the bike thing was funny.

Nice car 92lancerevo another tyee product.

Graphicdude
So what kind of cars take in these events? I am guessing you have to attend the driving school in order to race this season? Is there a website for more info?

NYGACR
Driving school isn't required to race but it's a good opportunity to get some pointers, especially if you're new to lapping.

There's a pretty diverse range of cars, anything from stock civics to full blown GT cars. Chances are, regardless of what you're driving you will be able to find at least someone else who's running comparable times to you; someone you can play cat and mouse with.

I think Matt and Mike are still working on the website, I'll bug them tonight.

katrink
We have the registration setup, but its not open yet. We are just making a few small changes to the regulations and then we will post up a link for everyone. :D

I think I will come by and check it out a few times this summer. Keep me posted on the webby. Thanks.

Registration is now open!

http://www.speedwayperformance.org/

Only 20 spots for Saturday and 30 spots for Sunday, and they are filling up fast!

As always, EVERYONE is welcome to try these out. If you're looking to learn how to drive your car fast, then the school is an excellent place to learn!

Spectators are welcome, free of charge!

SpeedwayRacing
Bump

Ramjet
I'm looking to get started in this. Can anyone recommend a good place to get an acceptable helmet at a reasonable price?

mattEG
Spots are filling up really quickly. Get your registration in soon. We're about 40% sold!

92lancerevo
crap! my car will be getting it's much needed clutch and new timing belt around that time. I will have to go on the next event, but it's lapping, i have'nt done that before but i'm good at dodging cars LOL.

SpeedwayRacing
There is no dodging of cars, only controlled passing on the main straight. You will be put in a group with other cars that run lap times with in 1-2 seconds of your own so there isn't really much passing, its more about learning the limits of both yourself and your car.

Hey Ramjet, I've bought all of my helmets from motorcycle stores. A nice HJC helmet you can get for less than $200.00.

ae1969
Have you guys finalized the classification for both street and race cars for the event?

Need to know before I purchase some new tires.

Thanks

Alex

Ramjet
Thanks for the tip, Cody.

On the weekend I found a nice HJC helmet at Alberta Cycle Motorsports for $135 (full face). Open face Snell 2005 helmets are available for as low as $110. They are also clearing out some 2007 helmets at some pretty good prices.

I did some shopping around before I made my purchase, and it looks like these are some of the better prices in town. Staff was helpful and patient as I went through the selection, and gave me some great advice.

:)

92lancerevo
how long do you get to spend on the track?

mattEG

There is no guaranteed amount of track time but last year we were seeing between 40 minutes to an hour.

dc2696
Last year at one event I bet I was over 90 minutes, everyone was broken or out of gas hahaha

Each session is approx 10min. and usually you get 4-5 sessions, if things run smoothly and no one goes off or blows up on the track prolly more like 5-6.

It really isn't. We've only had one off-track incident in 8 events we've run there. Our rules are fairly strict on limits in order to keep things safe and fun for the rest of the competitors.

SpeedwayRacing
I think we have actually had more then 1 off but we do our best to keep people from ending up off track. Its not like your going to win some huge prize at the end of the day. Its not worth risking damage to your car IMO.

Ahh, I'm famous for something!!!

Seriously though, it shouldn't happen. I was pushing the car pretty damn hard that day and the brakes were definately not up to it.

Shit does happen, but the organizers do a damn fine job of trying to limit it.

Doh, make that two. I was thinking of the 2nd gen earlier in the day. :) Thanks for the praise though, we try to make them as safe and fun as possible.

and Dean also put his car like 6 feet into the gravel. ;) I think your choosing not to remember :p

Who?

Everyone agreed mine doesnt count.

katrink
We still had to pull you out of the gravel :p Just because we didn't stop you from running after doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Inzane
An "off" is an "off". Even if you went off in the grass and hit absolutely nothing, that still counts as an "off".

This man speaks the truth.

Although with Dean it was a little bit of instructor / driver confusion. He still went off.

dc2696
Well I'm ready I only had too...

Install: Crankseal, flywheel,clutch,tranny,ds,diff(plus rebuild),ppf, turbo mani,turbo,dp,rad,i/c,piping,springs/shocks,shock mounts....

Not bad for 8hrs, now I just have to steal back my rims from the wife and give it a boost.

Cya Sunday.

I doubt we'd run if it was raining, let alone icy or snowed in.

Safely running an event is first priority...

SilverE90
When will registration for May 13 start? (or am I blind and missing it...) And is it the same price as the all day events?

mattEG
Evening event registration will be open Monday, pricing will be half a daytime event. $80.

As for this weekend's events, we're looking at -4 and -5 with snow, this is not conducive to a succesful high speed lapping situation so we're looking at the option of cancelling. There will be an official announcement made tomorrow morning.

If the decision to cancel is made, full refunds will be issued to all competitors that have signed up.

This totally sucks. :(

There was still snow on the track last weekend.

SpeedwayRacing
As of 8PM tonight the events for the 19th and 20th are now canceled. This is due to the fact that the weather man is calling for snow fri, sat, sun. Even if the track was clear I find it highly unlikely that we could safe and enjoyable event with temps below 0 anyway. I am sorry to everyone that is currently signed up. If you have paid you will get a refund of your money ASAP.
