| allmost, when you get out of a car with your hands up and 4 cops have their guns drawn on you...and you didnt do shit but drive and pick up a friend its not a good way to end the night. my friend was prolley more scared it was his car and he was passed out in the front seat and he got woken up by the cops asking is his brother was a guy named scott. and he only has a sister so...yeah...fucked situation. |

| well i heard over the radio that it was about a weapons threat. but im sure not many people have his type of car. it may have been cause i drove past them going to my friends house and then away from it. but that still doesnt make sense. up until that point i was on whyte ave no where close to where i got pulled over. and then when they find out he didnt have a brother they were like...ok you can go like nothing happened... |
|

Yeah... But I mean...
Why not just walk up to your door, grab your license, go back to their cruiser and run you name and shit... Then ask your buddy questions on the passenger side of the vehicle...
Instead of forcing you out of your car at 4x gunpoint? |

Cuz you might get shot in the face when you come to the car window if it really is a weapons beef?
It has happened, and on a possible weapons issue, you can bet nobody is walking up to the car. They are going to stand back with weapons ready. |

So....... four cops pulled their guns on you because you had a car that matched one from a complaint? You don't question this at all? If even one cop pulled a gun on me and I was innocent, I'd be talking to a lawyer. |

Running the plate, maybe? |

Don't shoot me Bro!!!!
:dunno:
I'd fucking lose it. Once they were done their bullshit and put their guns away I'd be a handful to deal with to be sure. There would be no way they could shut me up. I'd also be recording it all.
What a load of horseshit, they couldn't be bothered to run a plate? Oh right, they most likely never knew they plate number of the car they were looking for......
911 - "911 emergency, police, fire or ambulance?"
Caller - "Some d00d in a blue car just threatened me with a gun!! WTFBBQ!!111"
911 - "Ok Sir, we'll dispatch everyone we have and pull over all the blue cars, have no fear we'll get the bad guys!!"
Caller - "I love you guys, lets hug"
911 Dispatch - "Calling ALL cars!! Calling ALL cars!! This is a BOLO for a blue car with a gun!! Be on the lookout for a blue car with a gun, considered armed and dangerous.."
911 Dispatch - "Team Edmonton FUCK YEAH!!!"
911 Dispatch - "That is all"
Seriously!?! Why in the fuck do we even have number plates if the cops aren't going to bother using them.
4 units to do a felony stop on the wrong car? Scaring the shit out of the INNOCENT occupants?
Fuck that!
I'm guessing they had Air1 up as well... and I'm also going to hazard a guess that they didn't get the bad guy either... What a waste of manpower and money..
I'm all for the cops doing their jobs, but uhm.. pointing a buttload of guns at innocent people isn't cool. You don't pull your firearms till you know for a fact that you have the right vehicle. This is how people get hurt.
Innocent people going about their lives don't and shouldn't expect/accept being pulled over and having guns pulled on them by cops.
I'd be talking to my lawyers.
Just a snide question.. but were these guys all in uniforms? If so did they look something like this?

BBBBBBBBBAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
One of the funniest posts I've ever seen JeepGirl make!
Seriously though... I was under the impression that cops were only supposed to draw their guns if they planned on actually firing them? |

| no it was 4 officers 2 cars at first it was one car but they called for back up and like i said teh car i was in is pretty unique there isnt one ive seen in the city other then his so its even more fucked. air one was flying over after the cops left. when i pulled up to my friends house they were down the block and looking to be waiting at a house by ekota school.:dunno: and then when i left i took teh same way and when i got to millwoods road by the shell and turned right i could see the cop booking it after me. then he flashed the light and i was pulled over. he recorded my name on his lil recorder and was like...unrelated incident...and the weird thing is when they told me to go stand by the cop car...i didnt get searched or anything...maybe they were just bored...but shouldnt you like make sure i dont have weapons unless they just made it all up to pull us over. |

Before everyone gets too crazy, consider a few things:
1)Canadian cops have a lot less room to draw their weapons than they do in the States, but you can bet they will pull them out if they think there is a threat.
2) Firing the weapon is a whole other matter, where here in Canada the police aren't supposed to discharge their weapons unless someone's life is perceived to be in danger.
3)We don't know if they had a plate number to rule out his car completely.
4)We do know it was a possible weapon in a fairly rare car.
5)Four units or one, it doesn't matter if weapons are involved. RCMP Corporal Jim Galloway was killed in a quiet suburban neighbourhood in Spruce Grove in 2004, and there were several RCMP officers surrounding the scene, and only one gunman.
While this was fairly scary for dance/o/c, it wasn't anything that caused him any damages, and he wasn't really in much danger. On the other hand, anybody who has been paying attention knows that police officers responding to weapon's complaints can be in mortal danger.
I have been in the same kind of mistaken identity situation as dance/o/c & faced several guns drawn at once. It scared the crap out of me, but when things got sorted out I got over it.
It's not like we live in NY & dance/o/c took 50 bullets for nothing... |

I am sorry to pick on your post, Jeep Girl, because I haven't really had any beefs with you in the past, but your Nazi rant is out to lunch.

Actually, no, that isn't how people get hurt. If you have no immediate way to verify identity, having sidearms ready to use if just plain common sense. Waiting until the bad guy kills you is how people get hurt.
Real life is sometimes scary & dangerous. There is no guarantee that you will float through life without being scared or having someone hurt your feelings. Looking at the situation from a different perspective than your own could be worthwhile. How about looking at it from the perspective of a family member of a police officer like:
Const. Christopher Worden was shot in Hay River, N.W.T., a small town about 500 kilometres south of Yellowknife. The 30-year-old officer was responding to a call from a house for assistance at 5 a.m. on Oct. 6 when he lost radio contact with police. Two backup officers were sent to the scene and found Const. Worden in a wooded area suffering from gunshot wounds. He died in hospital.
Meanwhile Worden's wife had to later give birth to a child without the benefit of a father in it's life. At least the drug dealers didn't get hurt feelings, though, so they probably won't sue the RCMP this time.
I think the EPS & RCMP make lots of mistakes, and they should be held accountable when it happens, but they also have to go to work knowing there is a chance bullets may come their way and still do it. |

| ^^^ Amen to that. When you go to work everyday not knowing what you're going to come across, but knowing that your life could be in danger at anytime, I think I'd pull my gun too. No, I know i would. |

| dance_of_curse |
well i have no qualms about it, just maybe coulda acted a bit better on their behalf. i mean it was like they were there and gone in maybe 3 minutes. i admit i have called the police 3 times over someone pointing something at me but this complaint looked like they just decided to randomly pull me over.
i mean if it was a serious weapons complaint the plate would have been run and i would have been searched when i was standing infront of the cop car. i mean would you not do that if you were the police if the vehicle kinda matched the description and it was over "weapons" and search the driver for said weapon..not just wake up the passed out guy and ask him if he has a brother then leave. |
|
|
| Bad Egg |
It was odd, d/o/c, but who knows what the cops had for an ID? They obviously eliminated your buddy and you from suspicion very quickly.
They did the same when I was in the same kind of set-up, they took one look at the driver's license of the suspected guy in our group and took off in less than a minute from when they first showed up.
As for running plates, that is fine for normal folks, but when you are looking for serious bad guys...swapping plates is not unheard of.
Think of it as a good story you have to tell now...anytime you walk away from a pointed gun it is a good story. |
