so my car has been parked for the cold months of winter and hasnt run since it first snowed. i fired it up the other day and i have a CEL on now. i have no insurance so i cant drive it for now. so i took it around my subdivision for a quik drive to see if the light would go off. no dice!
sort of bogs after start up,vtec wont engage and redline is at about 6000rpm now. i assume its in safe mode.
just wondering if anyone has a scanner and would like to stop by and plug it in for me so i can get to work on fixing whats wrong with it.
thanks

| What year is your car, you don't need a scanner to check codes in a honda unless its OBD2. The car would not rev past 3000rpm if it was in limp mode. If the car didn't warm up all the way it will not go into vtec unless you have a chipped ECU. |

| Reset the ECU by pulling the battery to clear the CEL... Then try again. |

Should find out what the code is BEFORE you reset it... |

Why?
If reset fix it, then obviously it wasn't a big deal, and if it comes right back again... Then you can look it up.

Honda's don't usually throw codes for no reason what so ever. Its a good idea to check it before you clear the codes.
What year / model is this car. |

If you're so sure there's something wrong with his car... Then what's the harm in clearing the codes? From what you're saying, they'll just come right back, and THEN he can waste his time/money/gas to go get it scanned...
I don't understand why you wouldn't try the most basic of shit first. |

sorry. car is 00 SIR. hence my user name EM1!! yes its obd2.
yes i did the basic first. unhooked the battery waited for a few mins and hooked it up fired the car up and immediately CEL comes on again. YEAH i know vtec wont engage unless its at normal operating temp. this is why i was asking for a scanner.
cant waste my time/money/gas to get it scanned ...BECAUSE if you took a few seconds to read you would notice i have to insurance on it because its been parked all winter. which is also why i am looking for someone to help me with scanning it.
FISH_E_O ill pm you. thanks. |
