Suspension, Gdl - Click HERE for Original Thread

~sanj~
So a year and a half ago i got a speeding ticket on my gdl license which costed me 3 demerits. Up until this friday i got another ticket for stunting. Now before you light a torch at me. Here is my story :P .

Basically i was running late for school (irrelevant), and i took a left turn quick, and a split second after i almost cleared the intersection, i caught a slippery patch on the road and my car went sideways..so i just kinda throttled through it and gained control and carried on my merry way...not speeding cuz school was just around the corner...all of the sudden i see two cop cars breathing down my back bumper....way to start a friday eh?

well i got a stunting and exhaust ticket...and im aware tht stunting tickets are 6 demerits...

so 9 demerits equals im getting a suspension....i know i probly deserved the ticket for driving like a twat, but thats half the point.

Now my question is, since ive been driving for over two years on my Gdl...can i still go for my full license before the conviction date?
and when i go to get my license renewal done if i pass..pay my fines at the same time and avoid a suspension?

RotaryJunkie13B
You must be driving for two years before you can go for your full license.

didnt no stunting was 6 thought it was 4....

x2

And maybe just talk to someone and explain to them... "Yes, I was driving a little too fast for the road conditions, obviously... Or else my car would not have broken traction, I did however, manage to quickly regain control... Instead of freaking out and crashing like 99% of Edmontonians would have!"

Okay, maybe don't say it exactly like that, but I think in your situation... You probably could/deserve to have the ticket reduced.

when i say i throttled through the slide...lets rephrase that to throttle happy....hence why i said i probly deserved it. Which is why im not too much into fighting it, but if i can go with the route of going for my full license, i would be happy
cuz either way..my insurance is going to go up :(

Come on now. We all know you did a clutch kick. ;)

~sanj~

Go get your "big boys" licence before the court date...

on the court date, plead not guilty, set a trial date.

On the trial date, show up early, dress nice (don't go hung over) talk to the prosecutor, explain the situation.

See if he will reduce it to an Unsafe left turn, too fast for road conditions, or ammend the ticket to registered owner charge (fine, no demerits)

Thank you for the information :wavey:

Still try to have the stunting ticket Lowered.. or.. No Demerits and full price of the ticket.. They can do that.. Being as it's one of your first tickets... They'll prolly cut you a break.. You don't 'NEED' to carry that with you all the time.. It's not worth it...

Ask them to change it to.. 'Stunting as a passenger'

i thought u had to have your gdl licence for 2 years without any tickets to get your full licence?

You don't need a lawyer... Only if you really want to spend money

If I lost traction I probably would have done the same :dunno: It wouldn't be the first time.

I wish the law was more lenient to people who actually knew how to drive. (IE, actually taking note that the patch was icy and that it was probably a move to gain control).

Better than most of the dumbass' in the city who don't bother to screw around with their cars to learn the limits and how to control them.

Good Luck

here here!

I drive my Focus ST like a complete wanker sometimes... speeding a lot, stunt a few times here and there, like to yank on the ebrake. I got all my windows tinted, and when I got a passenger they are usually watchign a movie on the deck upfront. no tickets in this car over the last year...and damn, I should have gotten some. Cops are usually right around the corner and I 'oh shit, I'm dead' but get away with it.

My old RX7 that I had, with no window tint, and stock everything... I got pulled over just because I was under 20, I swear.

sanj just get a points officer well charge you 100 bucks get ticket down in 100 area with 2 points most of the time. They saved me in the FD ticket plus lucky my dad's buddy is a point officer so he did it for free.

fredster102
I got the in the same scenario about 3 months ago same story.. late for school , went around the , back end swung out about 30 degrees , i told the officer it's a rwd car , no sandbags , no backseats , new to driving rwd , instead of giving me a stunting ticket i got a "unreasonable rate of speed" ticket , i went to court for that and they dropped it :dunno:

project.D.
Man...I hate how easy it is to get a stunting ticket. It's BS. Hope the trial goes your way.:)

Yeah, that's what i thought too. Anyone know for sure? My brother has 1 speeding ticket, and has been on GDL for 3.5 years and wants to get his full license....but isn't sure if he can.

stealth
I was 1 demerit away from suspension, and I still was able to remove that GDL BS.

Some of my tickets might of went away, but at the time I took the test, I still had demerits, I don't know how many though.

KrunkLord
k this is what the 3rd paragraph says:

"This letter is being forwarded to you based on current information on your driving record. Providing your driving record remains satisfactory, you will be eligible to take an advanced road test for full licensing privileges on XXXX/Xx/Xx. If relevant conviction information is received in the meantime, You driving record will be re-evaluated and initial 20 month probationary period may be changed or extended, dependent upon the type and seriousness of the driving infractions."

I hope this helps
