So being the busy guy that i am i rarely have time to eat properly. From racing around town form work to school, lunches with clients and my overall lack of planning (ie: buying groceries etc) i find i am always eating restaurant food or stuff on the run.
usually i try to eat fresh food, like a sandwich from a deli vs a cheezburger, but sometimes time and selection means it is greasy and fast.
last night like usual i was left with about 15 mins to eat and get back to the grind, so i found myself under the unholy neon lights of the kingsway food court. Looking around i see the usual suspects, and then there it is....Shumka (spelling??? i think that is right) a simple looking family run take out place in the southeast corner of the food court.
First impressions: food looked fresh and the girls/ladies working there were attractive.......so i was sold. I had the combo deal with some kielbasa, perogies, cabbage rolls and all the fixins. This meal reminded me of when my dad would cook when i was a kid, and i have to say it they put my old man to shame.
This meal was de-fucking-liscious, fresh, and seemed like a fair price (came to under 10 bucks with large drink).
i give them 2 thumbs up and recommend if you want some good old fashioned Ukrainian food made with a touch of home cooking love give this place a try. In fact they sell their homemade perogies and cabbage rolls frozen in bulk and i have a feeling i may try to duplicate the experience at home some day!!!
for anyone stuck in the day job night class game (Nait) this is a great place to hit up before class- just be careful if there is a little hottie in the class you are trying to mack, because the kielbasa may lead to questionable breath!!!
keep up the good work Shumka!! |

*edit* Booo, we can't write cyrillic in here!
Shumka, weirdly enough, means whirlwind in Ukrainian. I have no idea why they named their restaurant after that, but my cousins danced with the Shumka group for a while :) |

| I didn't read the review, sorry, but I remember I used to enjoy eating there whenever I went to Kingsway. |
