| Im always looking for a new daily driver. I used to own an 87 gts coupe, it was a fun car but the chassis and the handling were a tad weak and the rust is impossible to stop. Ive driven a first gen mr2 before but never owned one but I found the handling, the roadfeel and the acceleration to be so much better. Which car do you guys prefer? The prices of aw11 mr2 seems to be dropping while the ae86 is going up. |

| i have ownd both i love the way my aw11 handled and the cab . they are not as fast as the eight six thoe . parts are more expensive and harder to find . also the eight six is more easy to work on (if you can remember the clutch we did in like two hours you still owe me A supper for :D )but the aw11 does handle awsome. unless you want to drift then the 2 is to ass heavy . much more skill is needed . |

I've got both right now (86 ae86 and 85 aw11). The GTS is my daily driver and my MR2 is my race-car-to-be.
The GTS is obviously more practical as a daily driver (it's got ground clearance to clear dustings of snow in the winter and tar strips in the summer) and it seats 2 more people (2 very small people in the back seat). My hatch also has fold down back seats, which gives me a surprisingly HUGE trunk area for carrying stuff. My MR2 has none of those things. There's just no storage space in an MR2, and don't ever think of putting your girlfriend's chocolate easter bunny in the rear trunk...........
The MR2 is more fun to drive, when you're in "enthusiastic" driving mode. The GTS is nicer to drive when you're tired, and/or out on the highway (although the 5th gear ratio is a joke - 3750 RPM at 100kmph????)
My GTS also gets a lot better gas mileage, although I can't imagine why, since they both have the same motor, and same weight, and the MR2 is a smaller billboard to push through the air......
In short, the MR2 is a great toy, and the GTS is a nice car. Which do you need/want? |

| I already have an sw20 and a 944 so the toys are really starting to add up. I need a winter car, I found the aw11 to be pretty good in the winter other than the ground clearance while the ae86 is a rolling death trap. I also love the cockpit of the aw11 but I dont know if I coudl mount a ski rack on that thing. The ae86s are getting way to high up there in price which sucks too. |

If you take any sort of bend (Deerfoor trail)at highway speeds the rear end would start to swing out. I had to be careful downshifting as well otherwise the car would shift lock and the rear end woudl swing out. I got used to it after a while but when winter came it drastically made things even worse. I spend the entire winter sliding and Im a pretty cautious driver. I didnt have those problems in the aw11, it handled all of that great |
