Not 100% but I can suggest some things...
What route are you taking? Coq or Crowsnest?
Coq takes about 10-12 hours weather dependent.. summer took me 10.5 hours winter took me almost 13
Crowsnest is substantially longer about 17 hours total... possibly more dependent on weather.. but it is also a much more scenic and nicer drive!
Friday nights are street legals out at mission raceway, which usually has a huge turn out of people in the import scene...
2 Fri day Test & Tune, BCSSMA
2 Fri nite Mopac Performance Street Legal #5
You could go out and do some runs for test and tune or just race that night.
Track opens at 5, tech till 7.
***EDITED***
If you go the Coq route
Stops could be... Hinton, jasper, Valemont, Kamloops, Merrit
If you go Crowsnest id say red deer, calgary, sparwood, cranbrook, creston, castglar/salmo/nelson/trail, greenwood, osoyoos, princeton, hope
These are just suggestions of places i usually stop at when i make the trip, I've done the coq route 4 times and the crowsnest about 10-15 now. |

Thanks Cody,
I would like to get there as fast as possible, Seeing is how I have a tuning time set on the 1st. So likely the Coq route out there. Unless people are able to leave earlier on the 30th? Doesnt matter to me.
The rest sounds good to me, and we can always take the Crowsnest root back. |

I love driving as much as the next guy, especially in a group of friends, but 10 hours versus 17 hours is a little excessive.
I love driving endurance style as well... 10 hours, straight shot, only stop for gas.
I mean it's nice to stop and check out "points of interest" or have good long meals and whatever. But this isn't a vacation. I'm not going to check out the scenery. I'm going to see Aaron's car get tuned!
Just my opinion though. Obviously whatever the "pack" feels is best.
I just don't like driving with people that seem to have to stop for a piss every 30 minutes.
 |

I added a bunch more info =) since ive done this trip about 10-12 times now.... I figured id share my experiences.
Crowsnest can be a pain... its lots of steep uphills and downhills skinny roads and lots of corners with a speed of I think 80-100 tops... not that high... if you get stuck behind other travellers or logging trucks it can be slow going. |

That is also times for endurance driving... like I stop for gas and a drink that it, and on average i was doing about 120+ish |

The fastest route is, like you said Cody, Edmonton to jasper to Kamloops and then Vancouver. This route has alot more passing areas and what not then going the Crowsnest past way. I've done this trip 20+ times. Best time to drive is at night. For gas/drinks i think we should make these our stops: Hinton, Valemont, Kamloops and then Vancouver.
I usually do this trip in 10-11 hours driving like somewhat of a normal person. The quickest i've done it is 8.5 hours. I have a feeling the 9.5-11 hour range will be what we will do it in. |

This is definitely the fastest route, I've taken all of them. It's a 12 hour drive legally. The fastest I can see it done as a group is 6h to kamloops, 3h from there to to Van (9h). I've done it in 8, and thats with two 30 min stretches of driving quite legally to kinda kick back and take a break.
I usually stop in Hinton (280km), Blue River (+280km), Kamloops (+230km) , and Hope (+200km) for gas.
Remember 10$ for the Coquihalla toll, though I'm pretty sure they accept debit/visa, cash is quickest.
The worst part of the drive is that stretch near Chilliwack through Surrey. Congestion is pretty bad.
Personally, I would leave at 9-10pm, that gives you 11-12 hours to make it to Van by 9am. Should be a lot less traffic vs. leaving at 5pm as well.
On the way back I would suggest Vancouver to Kamloops, via Revelstoke/Golden to Lake Louise, to Rocky Mountain House, to near Red Deer, to Edmonton. Its about 2 hours longer drive than the first route, but the scenery is Amazing! The first route is rather flat until the Coquihalla, mostly driving between mountains. This second route takes you way up into the mountains as they are a lot taller and denser.
Unfortunately these dates are near a new moon, so there won't be much natural light.
When it's two lanes in our direction, or when there is no oncoming traffic, I suggest driving in a formation like this to double the headlight power, while still giving the second car a safe place to tuck in. My friends and I do this on road trips, and it's very effective.

| i always forget if i fill up in valemount or Blue River after Hinton. Meh oh well. haha There shouldn't be to much congestion between chilliwack and surrey because of the time of day we are driving. Just make sure we all keep the legal speed between hope and surrey cause the cops are ALWAYS there. :D |

Good to hear dude. I thought I was tight getting to Rocket for noon on the 1st... lol...
We may have to change up our game plan to get there on time.
Or maybe schedule a couple hours later?
Lets say its a 13hr trip........ I know we can do it faster, but we could also take longer depending on circumstances.
We leave at 5pm on the 31st of April. 1hr worth of stops (food) , Drive till 3am.... Get up at 9 the next morning, and get to van by 12:00pm.
I imagine we can sacrifice an hour sleep to drive an extra hour, but even then... your cutting it close.
Unless people are able to leave Edmonton earlier? like 4?
So far things are still flexable, so lets figure this out. |
|
|
| element |
hahha true. But im up to leave earlier like 2,3,4 dont really matter to me since im gonna take the day off to get everything ready oil change and all that stuff make sure everything is ok.
or we can always sacrifice an hour of sleep too but its up to the other people.
but i would be up to leave earlier from edmonton. |

Only thing is I'm running a bone stock MR2 GT-S and I think all of you guys have about double my HP. You think I would slow you guys up?

It's HWY driving dude. Double HP doesn't mean there all gonne be doin 400km/hr. If your car can do 120-130 you'll be fine. And my POS truck can do that. Just |

There will be lower HP cars cruising aswell, like Jayson said...If you can do a normal highway driving speed it wont be an issue. So if you are thinking of coming, let me know your first name and I'll throw you on the list. |
