Video isn't really useful, it was dark outside and the lights in the garage are dim haha. Vehicle is a 1992 Pathfinder, can anyone tell me what is making that high pitched sound? I'm almost positive it is the timing belt but i just had that changed before winter. Or is the sound normal for vehicles of older age? I would go to a shop to have them see what is wrong, but school and work make it impossible to go before closing. Thanks in advance for the help.

I had an a/c pulley on a car that made a similar sound...

Bentmetal
damn haha was hoping it would be the timing belt so it would be covered under warranty.

ron1
probably the bearings are starting to go in the pulley

ron1
could be idler pulley

Yep...sounds like one of the pulleys on the front of the motor.

Bentmetal
cool thanks for the replies

Does anybody have any recommendations on where to bring it? Preferably on the north side, decent pricing with good work.

SilverNeonRacer
Prolly not a recommended solution or test I should say.. but take a squirt bottle.. with the engine running and hit each pulley with some water one by one... if the noise changes then you know while pulley.. that's how I found out my noise was the a/c pulley I was washing hte sides of my engine bay and the top of the frame rails and got the a/c pulley wet and it shut up til it dried.

Bentmetal
haha I just came back from washing the car and noticed the sound disappeared on the drive back home, guess i'll try each pulley with that test once it dries up

Yep. Sounds like the pulleys alright. Have fun determining which. One of the guys suggested water which is a good choice. I have brake clean readily where I work and thats what I use. Actually its great when trying to verify a wheel bearing noise too. :)

Although its probably the pulleys...be sure to inspect the belt for wear and like rocks on the underside. That could cause squealing to some degree. Also another thing I've seen was when this 98 Explorer came in for a squeal..The cause happened to be the powr steering pump because it has a tiny leak that would fall onto the drive belt and fling it onto the other pulleys; it makes the belts slip causing the same sound.
