You can turbo it, but it is much more common to S/C. I think a decent kit is something like $6000 and it will bring you up to maybe 300rwhp. A turbo kit would be ~6-8k. Would it be worth it... probably not.
Um... upgrade to a 335i eh... probably out of his budget. A 1998 328 is ~10k, a 335i is ~45k. Its like saying that oh you will never make power out of your '91 NSX better off buying a f430. |

bad idea. heavily modding bmws is not smart unless you have a lot of money to do it, and a lot of money to repair it.
so you have a 328 worth about 10-13g or so, want to drop 8g into it to make it quicker by adding a turbo kit, which will destroy its reliability, and then its still worth about the same if its running good, and less if its messed up.
or your better option would be to sell that 328 for whatever you can get, take ur mod money, and buy a e36 m3 for around 20 and then do some light mods to that. a m3 will hold its value better too. |

Wow look at the posts before making yours, we all said turboing is possible, just it is quite expensive, and there are better alternatives than turboing. Turbo's are expensive on a BMW something which I doubt he can afford at the moment to do properly since he is not starting with a better platform eg. your friends M3. If you have money time and more money, Then yes a Turbo would be awsome for big gains. If you are on a budget, then mods as previoulsy stated by arabian_ryda would be in order, to make decent power while keeping costs down in terms of a BMW and maintaining a whatever reliability BMW actually has. If you are stuck on forced induction, the S/C the car seems like the best alternative since it is more commonly found in BMW's, there is alot more products/info on it, and just in general seems the best way to make moddest power through forced induction with these cars.
If you are interested in supercharging, I would get in contact with velocity motorsports. they deal quite a bit with VF engineering who has a kit that utilizes a vortec unit. They have quite a few e30 and e36's running around with S/C'd s50, and s52 engines |

dont get dinan chips i heared its POS and doesnt worth it, if ur 328i is auto swap it to manual.then chip it ( MARK D or JIMC chips)
then K&N air filter , exhaust its up to u but the stock will be fine. |

a supercharger is the easy way to boost it. But turbo parts can be had for much cheaper. Just don't boost it too much till everything else is built for it. Theres also a guy here who turboed his m20 e30 bmw.

Yeah, unless your e30 is a mint M3, it's a piece in my books, but i will say that it would be a hard choice if I had to pick between e30 m3, or e36/46 m3, but i think i would end up in the e30 cause i like cars form that era. |
