| What are the pro/cons of using component speakers? - Click HERE for Original Thread |

I'm looking at upgrading the front speakers in my girlfriend's 2005 Impreza wagon. It has slots for tweeters but are empty at the moment. I'd like to upgrade the front door speakers and add some tweeters.
Now, I've seen component systems and the tweeter and door speakers sold separately. What's the difference from installing component speakers and installing regular door/tweeter speakers if the deck has a built-in crossover?
I'm not looking at anything high-end. Something in the neighborhood of $200 for door speakers and tweeters. |

| In your case you should be using component speakers, not coaxials and a seperate set of tweeters (at least thats how I read your question). For 200 you can get a ton of different speakers, best bet is to go out and give a listen. As for the advantages, generally slightly higher power handling and more cone area on the driver will generally give you better bass response as opposed to their coaxial cousin. You get more cone area as there is no pole comming through the center to mount the tweeter on. |

components allow for better sound quality, like as just stated. but they are really more about staging.
staging is where you want to hear the sounds come from. like if you were at a concert, the high seem to come from the general area of the windsheild, the mid bass comes from the lower front area of the car, and usually subs come in with the low end coming from the trunk/behind the main listener, which would be you.
200 is a mild budget, its more about the listener then the speakers. you might like the sound of a stock midbass rather then a full out system with crossovers and everything needed to set up a full blown sq car.
hey, you might be able to get it done with a 100 dollar set, you might not find the sound you like till you spend upwards of 300 on something like focal poly shit. |
