improper parallel due to glass - Click HERE for Original Thread

rp_guy
note, this is not me. i would have avoided parking there altogether.

my friend apparently parked too far from the curb. the bylaw (621(1)) states 500mm (so about 20"). she says there was glass on the ground which prompted her to park slightly farther away, but i guess a little too far.

what do you guys think? anything like reducing, getting it dropped?

Get out of car, kick glass out of the way, park properly. Hmmm...difficult no.

Likely not an excuse at all, so just pay the minor little fine and be done with it.

BLOCKER
Sounds like a cop out to me...

I think that ticket is only $50..

It probably will not be reduced

Ruiner
I had to parallel today up near jasper.. 20" is a fair distance.. i was about 19" damn vehicles. and their being located where they were.

rp_guy
yeah that's what i thought. my car sticking out that far would have it's mirrors ripped off..

what can i say about girl drivers not giving a shit though?

thanks guys

What everyone seems to be missing here is:

Was the Glass broken or just a glass bottle. If it was a glass bottle then she should have moved it, or it should not have been an issue.

If it was busted up glass on the ground, then she can write a letter to the city of Edmonton parking enforcement.

I would rather get a $50.00 too far from the curb ticket and dispute it, than park on busted glass and potentially spend more than that on tires. $50.00 ticket is alot cheaper than $100+ tires. :D

It may be too late, but take pics if you can and get as much detail in the letter.

I did this and disputed my "improper angle parking" ticket and was successful. :D

Here is a tip, you can email the complaint to them the day the day it is due, then it can take 3 to 4 weeks for the city to investigate it. In my case, it was investigated and withdrawn with in a few days.

I suspect that the city may throw it out as they will spend alot more than $50.00 to investigate and pursue the ticket. :D

Finally someone gets to use this against the city instead of taking the shaft by loosing 5x a ticket price by missing a day of work.

Edit... Of course even if the city does investigate it's still us paying for it...

It takes a whole 5 minutes to write up an email disputing it. You do not need to speak to a crown prosecutor and waste your time.

How are you missing a days work?

The city collects my taxes to help pay for services like this. Why can I not use them.

We pay for it regardless if we dispute and they investigate or not.

Being the ticketless mofo that I am, I'm going by what I've heard others do about tickets which usually includes a trip to the crown prosecutor to either ask for a reduction or to get the ticket tossed. I didn't know there are other ways to dispute a ticket. Fuck wasting my time and money if the process can be done by email though, that's a super service to have!

BLOCKER
By law ticket = letter of appeal
Provincial ticket = trip to the court house

Got it!

You'd think they teach this shit in a high school class on civics or something.
