I like Alfa's, I'll buy one when they hit the show rooms. I'm particularly interested in the Alfa GT

I love Alfas but prepare to get raped WHEN something breaks... and something WILL break

They're saying Canada by 2012...

It's been suggested that they will be opening plants in America or Mexico, if thats the case I don't think parts would be all that expensive... no more than any other European car anyway...

I'd go for the brera .. just the styling does more for me :p

I would like an Alfa, but I'd much prefer an older GTV or GT1300Jr or GT2000Jr :p

It's also been said that Fiat, the parent company might follow, as well as peugeot or citroen. If Fiat comes back that'll be sweet.

I don't think parts scarcity will be an issue. Fiat is planning to come soon after, and they're both trying to get one of the big three to partner up with them. I know some of you are going to see that as a bad thing, but what have you read about Italian reliability? I think it's great. I can't wait to see Brera's here. Alfas are such beautiful cars.

Rich_A
Alfa's are rather high-end, no?

I assume a Brera or GT will run me a fortune..

Beerking
wow, I lost focus totally in this thread b/c of your sig, fawk....

Higher than Fiat, but I don't think they're really high end cars. I'd call them upscale high style cars. ;)

You know, to me it seems like the European auto manufacturers are smelling blood in the US. With the big 3's market share slowly falling as Japanese cars take it away, maybe Europe is wanting in on the game now? :dunno:

In any case this looks like more of a problem for the big 3 with more and more offshore manufacturers coming back to North America. They really need to get their shit together before they turn into the Lada's of North America.

OT: Saw the Pontiac G8 not bad, pretty aggressive looking but I'm sure they will fuck up the interior or slap a 50G price tag on it.

I think this will be great. Alfas aren't known for reliability but they make sharp looking cars. They'd add nice variety to our automotive landscape, which tends to be bland sometimes.

I just got back from a trip to the UK & Ireland, and I swear over there it seemed like 50% of the cars I saw were either BMW, Merc or Audi. Of the rest, there were a nice mix of Renault/Citroen/Peugots of course, VW, and for Japanese mostly Honda, then Nissan, not as much Toyota, etc. But I'd say overall Japanese cars in general are less prominant in that market compared to here. (they really like their European cars!!). For domestic, only Ford was in anyway common, but not the Fords we get here, mainly the Mondeo, Ka and the Focus (which I'm not entirely sure if its the same as the one here or not). The only Chrysler I tended to see was the 300... and over there they kinda look like Bentleys from the front because of a different grill design.

And ZERO GMs!! I didn't see a single GM my entire time over there and I was there for 9 days. (and the ones that supposedly are available over there are trashed quite thoroughly in Top Gear Magazine) I guess the Brits really do have taste.

quick_gold
I find that hard to believe. When i was there for 6 days there was a shit load of Vauxhalls everywhere. They are definately not as good/big as teh Mondeo there but hell it was everywhere.

Back to Alfa's, from what i know its not the scarcity (did i spell this right?) of the parts its the fucking price that would rape you. If i am not wrong i recall that in Egypt (right across the med. from Italy) Alfa parts were by far the most expensive. A couple of my friends sold their's (and got BMWs of Jag x-type) after a while cuz it was just too damn expensive to maintain.

I am on no sleep so excuse me if i am not making much sense.

I forgot about Vauxhall. Yeah, I may have seen a few of those. But they weren't "everywhere", at least where/when I was looking.

And besides, they're not rated very favorably either. (so still no feather in the cap for GM).

Why would you say something like that without googling the car first? If you've seen the outside, you can see the inside, and we already know about pricing.

Inzane, no Opels, Daewoos or Saabs either?

I was generalizing about cars I saw a lot of. If there was something that was less than 1-2% of the cars on the road I may not have even taken notice. I can't say offhand if I saw any Saabs or not, and they certainly are distinctive looking.

On the cooler side though, I did see at least a couple Aston Martins every day.

Very nice. I'm not surprised about the Saabs. You never hear Brits talk about them, let alone see them in pictures or video. (never been there, myself)

prophetes1
Alfas are really nice looking cars... but they are shit just like Fiat. Same thing with french cars (citroen, ranault, peugeot).
When it comes to Saabs... not sure about britain.. but back in Poland they were a rare sight and as far as i remember they were considered more high-end. They are certainly way more popular over here than there... which is weird cuz they are scandinavian if im not mistaken. Daewoos are made in poland (......i know.... nothing to proud of..... and yes they are Korean.... its just they have a manufacturing facility in poland) but i would imagine them being more common in that part of Europe rather than place like Britain.

Coming back to Alfas.. they look great... but dont get one... unless you want to drive a rental car for the whole time you own it... cuz its gonna be in the shop more than on the road.
