Does anyone know of a good shop to get the speedometer checked for accuracy?
EDIT: I should also mention they need a paper copy saying how much it's out by and it's for a sports bike if that matters at all. |

| was gonna say before your edit that the easiest free way to do it is to drive next to a newer civic or csx with a digital speedometer. they are pretty much the newest cars on the road with little to no chance of error. hahah works wonders   |

| if you didn't need the print out you could head on either highway 16 west or 2 south they have the AMA odometer check signs spaced at 1km for 5kms.. you watch the signs and the odo and then do the math |

Dont waste your time trying to fight the ticket.
We did numerous speedo checks on out dyno at subracing, and countless bribes to alter the readout.
You wont win in court, just stop speeding or man up and pay the ticket. |

If this is for a speeding ticket then I'm with Aaron. My "lawyer" tried to use this as part of his defence in my HWY14 top speed run episode. They didn't give two shits. |

| My friend has already taken the bike to a shop, not sure which one and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it, but we've tested the bike by driving it along side the newer civic and the bike was going about 12-13 km slower according to it's speedo just to stay beside the civic which was doing a steady speed. If all else fails he's going down to Calgary to visit his parents so he will be taking it to a shop down there but that's not for another 2 weeks or so. He has adjusted his driving accordingly but wants to fix the speedo regardless. |

Loveseths is the only place that I know of in Edmonton that will do a verification of the speedo.
For a DIY approach:
Go out of town to where the AMA posts the odometer check signs. Check your odometer. Usually 6km is enough to get a reasonable idea of how close yours is.
While you're driving by them, time the intervals between. At 100km/h, it should take you 1/100 of an hour to pass each sign. 1/100 of an hour is 36 seconds.
If that's too tricky, then 120km/h you pass each one at 30 seconds, or more safe, 60km/hour you pass each one at 60 seconds.
Therefore, using those signs as a reference, you can check both the odometer and speedometer for accuracy.
Or... Buy a GPS. |
