k i was looking at the demirit points scale and there is a ticket there for impeding traffic and not driving the minimun speed....
what is the minimum speed ?....
second of all is there a real problem doing say 5km/h under the limit ....
like sometimes i do 45-50 km/h because i'm not sure on the actual speed limit...
eg.... all non posted roads are 50km/h .....say that i turn onto a road (from a side street or business) and i see no speed limit sign..i must automatically assume that it is 50km/h (but in fact it is a 60 km/h) so i do 45 km/h - 50 km/h...
is that illegal and will i get a ticket... |

not likely its generally people making a brutal effort to, like 30 on a 60, or 70 on the highway. Its a ticket to give to people that are way to inept to drive. |

You wouldn't get a ticket for going 5 or 10 under the speed limit. I think this is one of those "officer's discretion" type tickets. If grandpa is out there on Highway 2 going 70kmph, he's not only going to cause a heck of a traffic jam (which leads to impatient people doing stupid things), he's also going to be in great danger of being rammed by someone not paying attention.
A cop would pull him over and talk to him about it, but probably not give him a ticket, unless he actually caused an accident, or got belligerent with the cop.
That's one of those laws that's only really there so the cop has SOMETHING to charge someone with, if they really need it. |

| On the highway, thats why there is 2 lanes.. the right is for slower moving vehicles, (maybe im on my doughnut and cant go fast). But on a reg road like deerfoot or the whitemud, if you are going 30kms under the posted limit, GET THE HELL OFF!! |

I dont think there is a minimum speed limit. But there is a safety concern if you are going tooo slow..

| I've seen minimum speed limit signs, posted immediately under the maximum speed limit sign, but not here in Alberta. I've seen it in Ontario, and on some Interstates down south......... |

| Quebec has a minumum speed sign posted. IMO, I hate them, I think it gives people the sense that they have the right to go that slow. |

Most times, though, in Quebec, NOBODY exercises their right to go that slow. Usually, they're ALL exercising their right to test the maximum speed limits :D
Montreal is STILL the only city I've ever seen in my entire life where rush-hour traffic moves FASTER than non-rush-hour...........
There's only two kinds of drivers in Quebec: the quick and the dead.

So true, nobody drives slow there. I also noticed that only in Quebec do the lights change instantly. When one direction changes Red, the perpendicular lane is green not even a split second later. |
