Brand of tires with 140 tread wear ? - Click HERE for Original Thread

ae1969
Does anyone have a list of tires that would have a wear limit over 140...... ?

dc2696
Over 140?? Lots...Do you mean under 140 as in slicks? (azenis are 200 but I'm sure you prolly know that) I think nittos nt-01's are a 140 treadwear. Heard good things about them too.

I need ... 140 or just over.... just trying to decide if I want to go as a street car or a race car for the speedway events....

I already have a set of 710's with a treadwear of 30...

I will check into nitto

Thanks

Alex just google it and you'll find a ton of info.

Are you looking for street/track tires or just track, I wouldnt go under 200 if your gonna run them on the street.

JustinL
I take it that tire is done? I like my azenis for street tires. They come in the right sizes and you've seen how they work on my car. They are a relatively good price too.

evoI
i would go with the nitto invos, treadwear of 240 I believe.

I would have go those expect they only come in sizes larger then 24 OD. So I went with the neo gens.

HAHAHAHA Yah I went and filled up gas and it was coming out as fast as it was going in....

Those tires are pretty old....lots of tread left but quite a bit of cracking/rot on the rubber. No point in fixing these tires.

Where did you pick up those azenis?

..... I am wondering how many miles I would get out of a sub-200 tire? I only drive this car in the summer now and for track events... no more winter duty for this one.

If I can get 20K Km out of a set I would be ok with it....

Well lets see, I drive my car weekends and track days and my rt 615s are in great shape (in the front atleast) and that was probably 7k km.

The rears are alittle worse for wear but traction on the street with cold azenis is the shits.

Cant really beat azenis when it comes to longevity/price/grip factored together.

Uhmm I keep hearing azenis .........so who carries these?

JustinL
I got mine from Transform spoilers with the Group buy a couple years ago.

Personally I would recommend the Hankook Ventus R-s2s They are basically the same as a azenis 615 in both price and levels of grip, but they have one major advantage. If you drive a set of 615s hard for 5-6 laps at statotech they can start to feel a little greasy. You won't have the same issue with the hankooks. I could get you a price but I don't think they will be here in time for the time attack if I bring them in :(.

i don't really like the azeni 615s that much myself. they seem to wear a lot more then the kuhmo mx's and don't feel like they handle any better really. lots of people complain about them being inconsistent, i didn't notice this too bad though, but it was a tire designed for autocross, not track, so it makes sense. these would be pretty cheap for your car though.

Advan neovas are another tire to consider, but they are pretty expensive but are definitely something you would use on the track. 180 treadware, not that treadware is consistent for meaning from tire manufacturer to tire manufacturer. lots of people havea lot of good things to say about this tire

RE01-R's are probably what you should be looking at though, IMO they are the top 'street' tire right now for handling as well as bang for buck. consistent, awesome handling, not bad tread life even though bridgestone rates them at 140. they're not exactly cheap but you usually get what you pay for with tires.

or you could go with the kuhmo MX's again, which are a good tire.

hankook rs-2s i don't know much about except they are cheap. however i don't think u'll be able to get sizes for your car very easy in that tire. i know i can't.

BFgoodrich KDW's are a pretty cheap tire that would be good on the track too.

The Potenza re040's on mine are a 140 tread wear. They lasted three summers of commutes to work and the z-car club autocross and track days. ~20,000 kms sounds about right. For a mixed street and track tire I've heard good things about the 615's. I'm planning on RA1's for track days though, but if you're in a class that requires a 140 your stuck with street rubber.

May?...... if they are planning on changing the details of the classes I think they better be posting this information ASAP.....

call or matt or pm him on here street tire max may go up to 200TW

aarrgghh
Change in class requirements for whose auto crosses though? I really only run at private club events (Z-Car) and we don't have this issue unless the track insurance places it there which I don't think it does (1/3 to 1/2 of the cars are on RA1's). Hmmmm.....

Since you brought up the zcar club ....... did you finalize the dates for the stratotech day? I have been watching that thread and no updates since Jan 24 :D

I would love to run on your club day again. It was a blast the last time out.

I figured it would have to be something like that. Thanks for the clarification.

(For Stratotech see the Z-car thread on it).

Why not just run your R-compounds and forget about classes-schmasses. You're doing this to have FUN anyway, aren't you?

Yah ... I am doing it for fun...... but primarily to improve as a driver....

but I would get some enjoyment in doing well in both a street and race class........ :)

uncle ben
My 2 cents on the Hankooks, i'd say slightly less tractions than the azenis (my comparison is to the old azenis) great price, lot of sizes. Not very stiff sidewalls, tires seem to roll over on the shoulder even after running higher pressure. Last just as long as azenis, but way better wet traction.
