Ok, here I am, posting a second topic in less than an hour, but this question has been burning in my mind ever since i found a place in britain where I can get second hand Imprezas;
Is it legal to drive a car with the steering wheel on the right hand side in North America? Or should I give up my hopes of buying a european import Impreza WRX? |

Yes, you can import and drive RHD cars in Canada. A friend of mine is driving a RHD Toyota Landcruiser (from Australia) in Edmonton right now.
Isn't the new Impreza WRX STi the same as the European Imprezas, though? Or at least close enough that it isn't worth the hassle and expense of importing one from Europe? Spending the money on aftermarket stuff on a North American Impreza would be far more useful, not to mention that it's easier to get parts for the NA model than the European one..........

but the new STi is about $30,000 US (i haven't been to a dealership since it was released, so i don't know the figures in canadian $$$)
and the point was that i found a place in England that sells (some) farily cheap second hand imprezas, and as for after-market parts, i'm not really too worried about those, it's too hard to find good after-market stuff for the impreza in general, so i probably won't bother with many

| About bringing it over the Canada - maybe talk to Redbaron, he had a buy from UK interested in his 300ZX from the UK, and he probably knows a good way to ship it. |

| The manufactured date of the car has to be 15yrs or older to be street legal in Canada. You can import before then but you need a show/race permit to do so. Also, the car has to have the basic safety equipment as required by Transport Canada. |

if the car was released in canada as the wrx was then you don't need to wait the 15 years. The 15 year rule is to do with cars that don't currently meet the dafety standards that are in place and therfore unable to be brought into canada but a car that is 15 or more years old only has to meet the safety standards at the time of manufacture which in most cases were a lot less stringent |

| After all is said and done the STI comes out at $52 000 canadian. Thats a lot of scratch. I chose the wrx route instead of the STI. I can do a hell of alot of mods for 22 grand and make my car original. If I were you I would look for a good used wrx in canada. There are lots of them out there now that the STI has come out. |
