| Hello, i currently have a gdl license and just 2 weeks ago got my final speeding ticket. After that ticket i should have had 8-10 demerits taken off. I was eligible for the advance road test last year but was always lazy to take it. The due date for the last ticket it due in may. I was just wondering if i took my advance road test ASAP before the ticket is due and paid for will this help me keep my license in any way? Thank you. And also if there is video playing on the passenger sun visor is that illegal? It's not really within the drivers view and it is like those pull down ones they have in those vans ect. thanks |

Yes.
And no.
Edit:
To clarify; Yes. Getting your regular license before the other ticket is applied will mean you get to avoid suspension. Also I suggest taking an defensive drivers course to have another 3 demerits knocked off...
And no, it is not illegal to have a movie playing in the front of the vehicle, as long as it's not in view of the driver. |

"i currently have a gdl license"
= You are only allowed 7 demerits before suspension
"and just 2 weeks ago got my final speeding ticket."
= really? so you have made a concious effort to slow down, stop showing off? I hope for your sake you have
"After that ticket i should have had 8-10 demerits taken off."
= why? has it been 2 years since you were issued those demerits? If you have 8-10 demerits on your GDL you should be suspended from driving.
"I was eligible for the advance road test last year but was always lazy to take it. The due date for the last ticket it due in may. I was just wondering if i took my advance road test ASAP before the ticket is due and paid for will this help me keep my license in any way?"
= If you are able to do the test, I would suggest before the tickets are applied
"Thank you. And also if there is video playing on the passenger sun visor is that illegal? It's not really within the drivers view and it is like those pull down ones they have in those vans ect. thanks"
= "not really" is it visble from the drivers seat? or is it not visibe from the drivers seat? As much as it pains me to say it, AudiInProgress is right on that point "it is not illegal to have a movie playing in the front of the vehicle, as long as it's not in view of the driver." |

Do a few Hail Mary's and such, and you'll be absolved of your sin. We'll still respect you. :D
You beat me to the punch though on the responses...which basically high-light the fact that the OP is why there are graduated licenses in Alberta.

For the advanced license do you just study the regular handbook and all the crap from driver's ed?
What in particular are they looking for? I've looked around but there isnt specific reading material. I have the test coming up but don't have time to tka e a course before my suspension kicks in. |

| the exam is the same as the first driving exam just abit harder and longer. i took it last year and failed. ran a yellow light x.x. we went through 4 school zones, couple residential area's ( trying to catch you at uncontrolled interesection) highway, normal roads with bus-lane (97st 118ave to yellowheal) . took about an hour of driving around town and i just had to run a yellow 2 blocks away from finishing. shitty deal |

I answered all the questions quickly and concisely... What's the need for all these other posts?
Give it up. |

| On the video subject, I thought if the driver can see if from their seat(I can see the pass sun visor in any vehicle I drive, if I look) it would be illegal. |

I got a vid system going in my car, front dash board. I do have it bypassed so it can be active while driving, so I can see it, but I don't use it while I'm driving because...well that would be stupid. I was just lazy in the hookup.
But I read somewhere that if you get in an accident and they find out that your vid screen is able to play without the park break on, then the insurance might not cover you and you may get a ticket. Could someone elaborate on that? What if you don't have any movies in the car at the time of the accident? Because I'll hook it up properly if thats the case...but I got wiring problems already, and don't wanna mess it up more.
What if the screen is only partially visible to the driver? Like its on an angle and you can only see the top quarter of the screen? |

What your insurance company does may be unique to the situation...as in if they're looking for a cause due to something not adding up, they may look at it. Same goes for a collision investigation.
As to partially able to see it...well then, it's partially illegal...but tickets round up. :D Nothing is legal for viewing when the car's in motion... |

| Heh, my wife had an Ipod video in the front seat(watching a movie piped into the car stereo), I told her if I get stopped to put it in her pocket :P Now she sits in the back and watches the built in system :P |

Maybe I do not see the satire, but I do not think you got to 4500 posts in less than a year by not adding superfluous posts. |

| Maybe you deserve to lose your license for your speeding, maybe it'll make you learn to keep yourself in check while driving. |
