You want to eat atleast 6 meals a day. So you are basically eating about every 2 hours. Eat lots of protein, about 30 grams per meal. Anymore then that and your body cannot digest it and its just waste. Supplement your diet with a good weight gainer shake as its hard to eat all that food all the time. You say your going to the gym, dont do any cardio. And you workouts should be low reps and sets and use heavy weights. Use a weight where you max out at about 6 reps per set and stick to the basic movements. Bench, squat dont worry about doing anything fancy.
Some people have the fast metabolism and when you get older you will be happy you do. How old are you by the way, that could have alot to do with it. But stay away from any drugs claiming to slow your metabolism down as they will only screw you up.
Keep this up and stick to it closely and you will gain weight. |

hey dude...thanks for the advice... im 22 and everyone keeps saying itll catch up to me one day... but i waas wondering...ive gone down that road before, but i was reading on this website saying that, eating less times(ex. 3 times/day) but having big consumptions each time will slow down the metabolism....so i dont know which one is true?? i think ill take your advice...
thanks again... |

No problem, I had the same problem when I was younger and the only way to learn is asking question and reading. And its always nice to have people to ask.
Being only 22 also is a big factor. As you get older in most people your metabolism will start to slow down. But as for eating less meals but larger amounts. One thing its not healthy to eat that much food at one sitting and also you will gain weight doing that, you will get fat. With the way Im stating for you, its to gain good muscle weight and not to gain a crap load of fat.
So good luck and keep at it. Consistency is also the key. You have to give it a chance and stick with it. |

Flex is bang on. The only thing I would like to add is in regards to protein intake. Your target should be 3g of protein for every Kg that you weigh per day. Keep your meals well balanced with plenty of micronutirents (vitamins).
For your work out, try to start with the biggest muscle groups and multijoint excercises first. Squats, Bench... then move to more isolated stuff. Maintain muscle balance too; don't just do pushing excercises or only work one particular motion around a joint.
I've got hours of this stuff if you want more details. I'm in the same boat as you... skinny guy trying to put on muscle mass. Hey my degree IS usefull!

Sure!
Protein: I weigh 70 Kgs, so x3 for me is 210 g of protein per day divided by the number of meals gives me how much protein I should eat per meal.
The way I workout works for me and not everybody will agree. Start with squats (after a light cardio warm up), then benchpress, hamstring curls, seated row, knee extension, military press, lat pull downs, standing vertical row, tricep dips, then if I have the energy left move on to single joint stuff like bicep curl, calf raises.... I try to have the oposite motion around the same joint for each of the major excercises and if I'm doing legs too, then alternate the legs in there as well.
Now having said all that, I don't always follow my own advice, but thats just cause I get lazy ;)

thanks!
....so your taking 3 times your weight in Kg in protein/day? Ive just been taking or trying to take in my bodyweight in lbs/day protein? Should I be taking more? Like i mean, i know i under estimate the amount of protein i take so I MAYBE taking in an extra 10-15g more than im adding up.
Well whatever it is, it must be working :D .....but if i could be doing more, then I would!
Seems like your working the big muscle groups and non-isolating excersises....I think i do a combo of both....I'll probably switch it up and start doing squats again and different excersises once i feel like ive plateau'd. |

When you are taking in the extra protein, dont take anymore then about 30 to 40 grams per time. As your body can only digest that much at once and if you take in more your body will just get rid of it. (now that number varies from person to person but its a general number)
For working out stick to the basics. Dont try to get to fancy with all the shaping excercises. You can worry about those later but for now stick to the basics. Squats, benchpress, shoulder press, deadlifts......those kinds of excercises. Keep your reps and sets low but your weight heavy. Try to stay in the range of about 6-8 reps (use weight that all you can do is this) per set and 4 sets per excercise. And keep your workout no more then about an hour. You grow when you rest and you need your rest for this kind of program. And work out about 4-5 days a week, make your program so you do your whole body once a week.
So try this and in time you will begin to gain weight. And the key is consistancy..you have to keep at it and not give up. Im ny experience it takes about 3 months to see any change from a program so give it that before you do any modification to it.
Hope this helps. |

how do u know if your body is getting rid of it? If u take a crap less than 2hrs after you've eaten? ^_^ lol
I think ive been takin in that much for big meals....and i nkow ive been retaining it for at least that long ...hahahaha...thats gross but whatever... :P
.....btw, ive been sticking to low reps, heavy weight, and 3 sets and havnt noticed anything for months until i started watching the protein content of what i take in.....and since then (2 weeks ago) everyone's been noticing.....so i figure if i can take in more protein (if im not taking enough already) with the same program......well, u know.... i, theoretically, should be getting bigger, right? |

HAHA no you misread my post S200R, 210 grams not Kg/day. But I don't do this myself... too much effort.
Excess protein comes out in your urine and if you eat way too much as flex said, it will put a large load on your kidneys, which can be dangerous.

| lol....you wont know....its not like its gonna leave a sign in the crapper or anything. Just that your body can only use and absorb so much at a time. |
