Wiring 2 Amplifiers - Click HERE for Original Thread

Timmie_G
Hey guys,

I'm wondering what the best way to wire up 2 amplifiers would be? I have a 4 Channel Kenwood running all 4 3-way components and I found it to lack ALOT of bass. So I purchased a sub and a second amplifier. So plain and simple I am a little confused by stereo wiring and any help would be great.

Thanks

You need RCA's coming from the sub channel on your deck to the new amp. Then you need to get a distribution block for your power, and split that. Then you need to either get a distribution block for your ground as well or ground the amps in the same place.
The REM you can again distro or just get another cable and put it in the REM hold with the current amp and put it to the new amp. I wouldnt recommend doing that with power and ground.

What gauge of wire do you have? You should be using at least 4g.

Do you get what I mean up there? Your basically branching off of every major wire, ground, power, and REM.

Well, the 4AWG advise is good, but it really depends on how much power in total you'll be running, and what type of amps. Heavier wire is required to carry more power.

You can buy distribution blocks at any car audio shop. They go from reasonable to imporbably expensive. I don't see a lot of benefit to the expensive ones, save possily bling factor.

So something like that.

thanks for the info guys. my setup is an 800 watt 4 channel and 200 watt mono block running a 8" sub the wiring kit im using for the 4 channel is rated for 1000 watts and the kit for the sub is good for 500. the deck has a specific set of rca outs meant for subwoofer use only and i am using the other 2 sets of rca outs for front and rear speakers on the 4 channel. so i guess my only al question now is after i get a power distribution block do i need a seperate remote turn on wire and if so where does it go??

Hey Dan, your knowledge on audio is impressive - is this from personal experience, or work/school experience?

Your wiring looks fine, when you run the remote you can just run a second wire from the 4 channel REM terminal to the REM terminal on the mono.

Thanks.

I've been working wtih the stuff in my own and friends cars for quite some time. I've built a couple of competition systems, and did reasonably well with my own (Though it was built on a budget.) So, it's pretty much self taught/experience.

Doesn't hurt to read through the IASCA rulebook and guidelines either. :)

old thread but bump for a good idea:

GET A RELAY to ensure that the draw from the rem of the amp does not exceed the potential of the deck. the relay would work the same as the rem except the rem would close the relay giving the amps a 12V signal, and therefor turning on.
