Creatine - Click HERE for Original Thread

Marximus
Does anyone know how creatine works? I see it in the jug fulls at Costco and was condering if it was worth investing into.

CYA
can't remember the technical aspects but basically helps with ATP levels. (adenosine triphosphate). basically more energy and also water retention for fuller looking muscles. i've tried about 4-5 bottles / cans of various high quality brands when it was the big thing back about 6-7 years ago and i found no diff. people say they gain with it but i myself have found nothing. it's not worth it in my opinion. i'd look at l-glutamine instead if you want to spend money on supplements. that and a good quality whey protein. i assume you're still trying to stay lean so a pure whey protein would be best for you since it's low in carbs.

Marximus
I bought a bottle of whey protein, low carbs, but still had a lot of filler I think, one scoop is about 16grams of Protein.

I ordered another brand off another friend, a flavorless brand with no sucralose.

Tell me more about this l-glutamine, not too sure what it is.

BTW, I've hit my target weight, but still want to cut the fat.

Loose
Sam,

You have any opinions on pros and cons of "cutters"?

BlueTurboEGG
Yeah, you see everywhere these products like Twin Labs Ripped Fuel and stuff, any idea on it's effectiveness?...

Sam, you shoulda been a Pharmacist IMO

CYA
glutamine is an amino acid. it helps prevent muscle breakdown and supports growth. go for about 10g per day. 5g in the morning and 5g at night.

as for the fat loss supplements. stay away from the "pre-mixed" stuff like hydroxycut, xenadrine, etc. by the ingredients seperately... it's much cheaper and just as effective. which brings me to the answer to your questions. yes... they are effective. the twin labs ripped fuel is herbal stuff and does not contain ephedra. so i'm not talking about that stuff though. what you should be getting is ephedrine, caffeine, and aspirin. dosage should be mixed as follows: 30g ephedrine, 200g caffeine, 300g aspirin. that's the ideal ratio but ephredrine typically comes in a 25g tablet. caffeine you can find in 200g tablets so that's ok. aspirin comes 500g per pill. for myself i've always stuck with 50g ephedrine, 400g caffeine and the 500g aspirin. i don't feel the "buzz" associated with taking ephredrin and caffeine and people who don't feel it's effects take up to 100g of ephedrine at a time but i'd rather keep things at a lower level. i take the dose once in the morning and once at noon. and if i'm feeling up to it i take another 25/200/250 ephredrine/caffeine/aspirin at about 3pm. i kinda use it casually you could say. to benefit from usage of ECA you're supposed to take it 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off / 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off etc. i kinda use it like a couple days here a couple days there. lol. when summer time rolls around i'll get off my lazy butt and do it properly to see it's full potential. some recommend starting out with 50g ephedrine in the morning and then in about 3 hours another 50g if you're not feeling buzzed. and in another 3 hours another 50g if still no effect from the doses before. up to 3-4 times a day and nothing after 4-5pm. it'll keep some people awake. if the 50g doses don't have an effect on you then go to 75g per dose. if still nothing 100g per dose. no more than 100g at a time. i've never tried anything over 75g. none of the above answers any real question as to how to take it because everyone's reaction to it is different. if you want to try it... you have to be in tune with your body and realize how it's effecting you and make your own judgement. but i am being bold enough to say 50g should be no problem for the typical person. oh... of course there's also the recommendation that it not be used on a long term basis. cut it out for a couple months every so often.

oh yeah... if i was a pharmacist... would i ever be rich. lol!! you should see tha mark up on the black market for other stuff. 400-500% is not out of the ordinary.

Markis
I was told that you should see a doctor before going on ephredrine.

BTW, can you take ECA seprately or must be altogether?

BTW, can the caffeine component be replaced by a coffee?

CYA
these days people tell you to see a doc even before you take a crap. lol.

j/k. but seriously... people tell you to go see a doc before starting an excercise program too. if your heart is in normal working condition don't worry about it.

i suppose you can take your caffeine in the form of coffee but how would you measure mg's of caffeine in coffee accurately?

the ECA stack works synergistically so it's best to take them together.

Markis
I like taking my Whey Protein with Coffee so I figure if I wanted a ECA stack, In the morning I was thinking:

- a large coffee (which should contain 90-150mg of caffeine) mixed with Whey protein (30 grams)
- a half an aspirin (250g)
- 25g Pill of ephedrine

At night I would do another coffee (half decaf/half caf) with whey protein (another 30grams of protein and 45-75mg of caffeine, for a total of about 135-225 grams of caffeine for the day).

and doing this once a day on my low-carb days (M-F). _

What do you think?

CYA
my opinion... not enough ECA to make much of a difference. you'll just be flushing money down the toilet. the whey protein supplement is a good idea and taken at the right times but don't mix your whey in the coffee unless your coffee is cold. heat will denature your expensive protein and again you'll be flushing money down the toilet. caffeine tabs are cheap... i think it was 100 x 200mg for $20? more cost effective than coffee. i'm biased though... i don't like coffee. lol. and careful with your coffee intake... sugar and cream usually equals unecessary calories.

Markis
Yikes Sam!

Are you certain that Hot liquids will denature the protein (couldn't find any sources on the web).

Since I use instant coffee, I could mix the coffee cold, then add a bit of hot water to warm it up.

CYA
yes i'm sure heat will denature the protein. i mentioned this a long time ago when i suggested boiling the xtra lean ground beef, remember?
