| My MX-3 still has it's winter tires on it - so I've been driving it. I always wait until this crap is done before I swap them over. I keep all seasons on the Sunbird convertible so when the weather gets better, thats the one I drive. |

Sidekicks kick ass in winter, if you have the use of the 4WD system, sadly my summers don't allow this since the front and rears have different rolling diameters:( |
| Cheemoney |
| rolling diameters? what are those? i r noob:( . i took my car to the liqour store. holy crap, that plus summer tires = bad i dea haha. |
| 92rolla |
The rolling diameter is the total height of the tire.
So for example i'm running a 235/60 R15 (or a 235mm width, with a 60% (width to sidewall height ratio) on a 15inch rim) on the front for a rolling diameter of about 25.9" and in the rear I have 295/50 R15s for a diameter of about 26.6" so, because in 4WD the front and rear diffs are locked together, this will cause a huge amount of strain on the transfer case, so I can't run it like that. |
| Cheemoney |
| hmm, what size engine do you run? my mother has a 1.6L. i know its hard on the engine cause the wheels are too big. so maybe thats the same problem, i've just never heard of rolling diameter before. |
| 92rolla |
I'm running the G16A (the 1.6 SOHC 8v)
And the size of the motor has nothing to do with it. It's putting alot of strain and excess wear and tear on the transfer case (the box that goes behind the transmition, and splits the power either to the rear (2H), the front and rear (4H), or the front and rear with a reduction gear (4L)) Because the front diff is trying to spin at a different rate than the rear diff, and since there is no give point (like a central diff) the only place for that energy to go is in the gears, and they don't tend to like that very much. |

| I've got Hankook Icebear W300 on my car... they have yet to come off... pretty good winter tire since they're deemed a performance winter tire...rarely does my traction control or abs kick in.. People should have watched the CBC Marketplace show when they did a thing about winter tires vs all seasons... they said that as soon as the temperature gets between 5-7 degrees celcius you should put your winters on.... and you should keep them on until the end of april haha |

| I've been driving the winter beater, thankfully I was to lazy to put summer tires on last week :) |
| cupcake |
Well, I put the winters back on since my mom refused to let me borrow her car for the week.
Did a litte more of the work this time. I am a weakling and can't lift a wheel to put it on to save my life though.
I have low end winter tires that I will be changing next year. In fact, a couple websites call them "premium all seasons." Oops. The manufacturer website has them listed as winter tires though. :dunno: |
| Cheemoney |
| maybe the snow will go away now that everyone has put on their winters again!!! |

| Karan |
| I was very tempted and extremely closing to putting my summers back on when it got upto 20c last week. but then decided to (fortunately) check the long range forecast and saw that "some" snow was predicted for this weekend. Never could I have imagined it would be this fucking much. Sure glad I decided to err on the side of caution though. :p |
| Cheemoney |
| i remember seeing the snow forecasts and though i'd take the chance anyway. also didn't think it'd be THIS much snow :( . |

heh, next week i think it might... but for this week, I'm going sledding every night... cept tomorrow, I get home late :P |
| Cheemoney |
| i would try and drive to work regardless of my summer tires. they do have some tread depth to them. its not like they're low pros or anything. but i probably wouldn't make it down my driveway curb. |
| rp_guy |
| i put mine back on yesterday, and i'm glad i did. snow is no problem for the all-seasons, it's the thick sheets of ice on the road that cause problems. |
| Cheemoney |
| to be honest. i bought the FC when the snow went away (they came with winter tires on already). so i don't really know how it handles in the snow with winter tires lol. |
