FAAACKKKKKKK YOU SNOW!!!!
I feel like such a tool and I need to vent.
Me and my Dad both work in Nisku, I just car pool with my dad to work. So were recently in progress of moving from a house we are renting to a new house, so we have that house till the end of the month, so I just have my car parked in the old garage.
It's my buddies bday tonight, so I'm borrowing my dad's car to head out. Fucking first turn, I take too fucking fast and slide right into the damn sidewalk. Pull over and check out the car. Thank God no body damage. Drive around the neighbourhood and car is shaking at 20km/h and auto drifting in the snow. I pull over again to check it out and the rear wheel is just toed out like a mofo. FUUUCKKKKKKKKKK
The car is pretty much undrivable in this weather, so I go back home and tell my dad. Come out and checks it out, drives her around the block, and is like "Yep, shes fucked".
Hopefully it's just like $100 to fix. Damnit I feel like an idiot. GRAW RGAWGRGAGWRASDh
Drive safe out there! |

| reminds me of earlier. took the parents suv out to the store due to it being heavy and awd with nokian all seasons. took the first corner out of my neighbourhood, and nearly mashed into the curb. got traction at the last second. intersections are brutal right now too. especially the turning lanes. shitty deal though. hopefully its a easy fix. |

I just put new bfgoodrich g-forge kdw's on the sti and it handles like shit in this weather

| yah, I'm lucky my car is garaged. I probably would have been too lazy to swap back to all seasons and end up with a misaligned car + bent rim + tears |

| Glad to know i am not the only one... other than the slide in the morning, i slid again this evening going to a friend's house on a residential road turning left. This time i was very careful couldn't have been going more than 20, the car under steered miserably and i ended up hopping on the curb. Good thing on the drive home there didn't seem to be anything wrong. Might have messed the alignment a bit, will find out on a drier day i think. |

| Crappy all-seasons from dealership were put back on the Mazda3 last week. Un-freakin-believable. Complete crap. Turning intot he alley way, not even fast. Missed it, went un onto the side-walk, a foot away from a pwer box. Almost gotta come to a dead stop going around a turn that hasn't been melted/worm down. I wont even try the teg out in this. |

My friend driving a monte carlo almost lost it taking a left and sliding into the curb..
Showed me to not take my car out today. Wont be taking it out till the snow is gone.. |

| I tried driving around the residential area. Was going sideways up the hill doing about 5km/h. It was fun, until I got to the top and realized that I couldn't stop going down the other side. :( |

Hahaha.. same thing here... well the Mazda3 shitty all seasons... damn.. those tires are the worst shit ever.. You got the Toyos right?
Edit: they are great in the dry.. nice an grippy but fuck put some snow and they are useless. Also when its wet and u r carrying some speed they are as useless as slicks. |

woho! i got my mazda 3 rental and my car is still in the garage waiting to be fixed on the 24th. the tires on this rental are total garbage. im just happy i dont have to worry about my car being hit again, this time someone can fuck up the rental.
i have never driven with all seasons because ive always had strict summer/winter tires. what a difference! my winters tires never had a problem with any amount of snow, but these all seasons find it hard to grip with 1 cm of snow. i still cant believe ppl use all seasons in the winter. |

Yeah I'm not looking forward to getting into Edmonton, though I don't get in until Thursday so I may be good by then. I just put on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's last Friday so that should be interesting, T/C and AWD don't fail me now.

Sitting at a red light yesterday, I watched in my rear view mirror as a guy did a complete 360 behind me. I had one foot on the brake and the other hovering over the gas pedal in case I had to boot it out of the way.
Then, later on, sitting at a red light in the left turn lane, I had a guy smoke me from behind. He is from Africa, been in Canada for a month, it's the first time he's ever seen snow. I felt really bad for him, because he's a new driver, now his insurance rates are going to go up. His little Corolla got the front end smoked pretty good (punched in the whole plastic bumper), my big SUV has a scratch on the rear bumper.
Then, later on, coming up to a green light, I see a guy coming from the left, going to make a right turn at his red light. But I can tell he's coming waaay too fast to make the right. So I slam on the brakes, and he slides straight ahead through the intersection (wheels locked, turned fully right), right across in front of me. He's white as a ghost with great big saucer eyes as he looks out his passenger window at the big front end of my SUV. I just laughed at him. But, if I hadn't stopped, he would've T-Boned me big time, or I would've T-Boned him.
The problem is, everybody's switched back to their summer tires already, so nobody has any grip. |
|
|
| AudiInProgress |
| Pathetic. I've been out driving around with no problems. On shitty $10 candian tire/s. I don't undestand what people are thinking sometimes. It's snowing, so don't accelerate fast, don't brake abruptly, and don't take turns sharp... What's so hard about that? |

Well let's just hope this'll be the last dump of snow before spring really comes. If not, then it's damn depressing. Coming home from work at around 11 last night with 50% tread front all-seasons and around 70% rears wasn't too pretty as anyone can imagine. Just have to refrain from abrubt movements and keep it nice and steady at all times. Just gotta keep smart people.
Nonetheless, hit up the south Edmonton research park and had quite some fun in the deep snow. But still, Jesus, it was so fucking nice last weekend...:( |

From 1971 to 2001 the average snow accumulation on the ground in april is 2cm. Yea real fuckin normal. |

Shitty deal that it happened. But, it just goes to show you how many people do not drive for the conditions. Its common sense to slow the fuck down if the road is covered with slippery snow and ice.

I work 6 days a week this summer for the Entire summer this year.. I could care less if people can't get in a camping trip... actually let me rephrase that.. I hope it rains EVERY single weekend from May to November when the snow starts to fly again.
You can BBQ in winter. its just a tad more difficult, but has been done. |

| Its weather like this that I don't see the point of owning a nice car in edmonton. I love em but no way no how. I mean yeah we usually get one last big dump and I thought that was 2 weeks ago. for me give me a truck with a couple inches of clearance and 4x4. sadly my truck is a reg cab long box 2wd with a very torquey little 302 so at intersections I spin my tires unless I am in 2wd and thats with 300 pounds of sand over the rear axle I took my sandbags out the other day. not to mention the slightest amount of extra throttle coming out of a corner and your going sideways. |

The man speaks the truth. Winter's only good for sleeping in, otherwise it's a complete waste of time. Think about the warm sun, shorts and t-shirts, opened windows, working on your car outside, going out with buddies camping or to the lake, going to car meets etc...As for the winter? All I can think of is being cold and skiing/snowboarding + hockey and then a bunch of indoor crap.
Winter's just a time where everyday routine rules all, get to work/school when it's dark, come home when it's dark, sleep and the cycle repeats. Once spring starts though, I feel totally alive.
Here's to hoping we'll be back to how it was last week. |

I never take my winter tires off untill end of May. April and May are too unpredictable. As crappy as they are, I had no issues getting around today. My only issue were the ones driving super slow blocking a lot of lanes, as if this was the very first snow fall they have ever seen.
No point complaining about the snow. Nothing I can do about it so I deal with it. |

it's not the fact that i have never seen snow, it's that i got my UHP allseasons on, that do have better traction than summers but not as good as my winters. i can't accelerate past 1500rpm w/ 10% throttle without spinning the tires (whereas my winters would be able to hit 30-40 in 1st). so just being extra careful, that's all.:dunno: |

Its just not that bad out there, however with that said the roads are slick right now so I hope everybody uses a little due dilligence when driving today |

Where in Nisku? On my way into work here this morning, highway 2 was pretty slick especially in the slow lane. Saw about 6 cars in the ditch. Should be a lot better now though. |

im sure ill get stuck somewhere, im glad im not driving my car, i would be a snow plow, but id have good winter tires on.
i was using my car as a shovel when i got home yesterday because there was so much snow in the driveway. i just drove out of the garage and pushed it all out onto the street before i shoveled the rest. so no matter how much it snows, ill always only have under a ft to shovel. |

I'm guessing he's one of those guys who pins the throttle when he gets stuck?
My dad got my mom's car stuck in the back alley once, sure it was sure ice, but he was just spinninghte tires.. I hopped in, only gave it a little throttle and away I went. |

Depending on the 3 series, the throttle is drive by wire. Computer takes car of preventing the driver from going WOT when the traction control is activated. |

i had to reverse the entire length of my back alley since it is a minor slope uphill and i couldnt get any grip forward...it was like i had a front wheel drive car with rear steering. but once on the main roads it was no sweat- just have to have/use common sense.
it is so funny how we all go nuts in these conditions now, when our parents and g-rents were trucking around in 10 ft of snow uphill both ways with bias-ply tires and no such thing as trac control/abs/blizzaks/front wheel drive etc- they made it....so can we
just be careful!! |

Alright..
I got pics FTW! :D
The yellow head was good, same with 14 (I believe that is the one that puts you on the West side of SP.
Everything was fine untill I hit Moron Park.
Here is what I saw....
A new Dodge pickup 4X4 Rolled and in the ditch, 10 seconds later I see another truck, slid way and the hell off the bend, 1 minute later I am behind the "Griswalds" beater pickup carying an oversized load of spruce tree branches, swerving/stradeling baseline and almost side swipes this truck in front and in the lane to my right of me.
Yup! I got picks of all. Will post them later tonight. :D |

That explains alot.. my Durango is drive by wire and I had some melting snow in my rad so I tried revving it(in park) so the fan would suck it out and the computer was cutting fuel at about 4200rpm |

And that is sometimes the problem. The traction control in these cars will keep you from getting out sometimes. I got temporarily stuck once in my 3 series and tried rocking the car but it was imposible because the traction control backed off the trottle before the car would move. Take off the traction controll and I got out very quickly.
That was probably the guys problem. |
