Story: a friend of mine owns a 300zx that is going for safety this week. a couple weeks ago he was driving it on a permit and was pulled over for nothing.
yes, nothing. police here pull people over in JDM cars even if they are plated and everything is in order. it happens. i'm over it.
anyways, let's be fair and assume he was pulled over because he was on a permit and thus because there was no plate the cop thought he was driving a stolen car.
moving on - the officer proceeds to rudely ream him out and tell him that his permit is for point a to point b transit only.
the permit in question was an SGI issued 24-hour use permit. you provide proof of purchase, info, and your license then pay 20 bucks. stick the thing in your window and you're good for 24 hours.
the cop proceeds to tell him he's driving illegally and that if we sees him out again that night that he will ticket him and impound his car.
i'm just curious how someone can get away with this. the cop proceeded to leave a few choice remarks about jdm cars and how it's all coming to an end and then left.
what would you recommend doing in this situation? personally i would just listen to what the officer has to say and not waste my time correcting what he says about the permit. if you know your rights and know what you are doing is legal then simply carry on I say. I wouldn't go home of course but I just wouldn't get into any sort of argument with a police officer. |

I am not sure about the permit, but it kind of reminds me of elementry school. You know the situation where the bully is jealous because you have a nicer bicycle. In this case the bully has a gun and is paid by the city.
This is not my opinion of all officers of course there are lots of officers out there that just do their jobs. That do not go around voicing their opinions like morons.
For an example think of the officers that cruise this forum, they certainly don't have the time to do it, but they do it anyway. In my opinion that makes them pretty stand up guys.
Cheers,

The Cop was right in every way. A twenty four hour use permit in SASK or an In transit permit allow you to do only a few things.
Namely Drive from the Dealership to Your Residence, private Shop or motor vehicle branch. The twenty four hour permit allows you to take the car home, to the shop for a safety or any other destination required to satisfy registration requirements or take it home and Park it.
Both permits do not allow you to joy ride out at night. Whats your buddy doing with a sask 24hour transit permit in Alberta. If i stopped him i would have done the exact same thing. Actually i would have ticketed him for mis use of plates.
But this only going off the information you provided.

Doesn't sound like you're over it.
He can file a complaint if he feels he was treated unfairly and let the system deal with it. |

Then you need 306 Tuners...not 780 Tuners.
Wrong site, wrong section to RANT and your buddy's lucky to still have the car. |

306 = fail :lol:
Why do you think I hang around here so much? |

In transit permits are only from point A to point B... not cruise nights....
Get it properly registered and insured = no problem...

As I have ended up back in Saskatchewan I can add that the laws are a wee bit different in this province than for Alberta. The 24 hour permit includes insurance & is good to drive anywhere in Saskatchewan & within 14 km of the border. There is no A to B clause so if you can drive from east to west & north to south in 24 hours then you're good to go!!
As there shouldn't be a license plate on the vehicle & it is hard to see the expiry date on the permit ... don't be surprised if the driver will be stopped by me or my friends.
