Insuring a JDM - Click HERE for Original Thread

RSready
Hey I searched but can't find an answer (I can't search JDM as it is too short). I need to know the name of some companies that will insure JDM cars. I know there are lots out there, so if someone could give me some names it would be much appreciated.

I know I could look in the phone book and make calls, but I'm hoping someone has an easy answer. Thanks guys!

Ummm yes. My mom and wife are also employed by them. But that doesn't mean they insure JDM cars (other than mine).

Soooooooooooory.

So are you trying to compile a list or something? My car is insured through Peace Hills.

TD meloche monnox (sp?) has been awesome to me, and very well priced... but I get the alumni discount which may help a bit (no idea)

They have been requiring appraisals lately.

My GTR is insured through AMA. I had it insured before they even knew what it was. It might be harder to get a JDM car insured than it was 2 years ago. :dunno:

I have heard that AMA will not insure Skylines in particular at some establishments. But "heard" is different than "knowing"for a fact, I just know some friends got turned away before they could finish their first sentence.

thats a tough call as im with AMA, but i actually canceled my insurance on the skyline with them because of their lack of coverage available and higher costs in general

my insurance broker told me that since those new insurance laws came in effect a few years ago, every insurance company MUST insure any vehicle as long as it passes inspection and you have a fairly good driving record. Now that is only for PLPD. I asked about collision insurance and my company wanted 360 degrees of pictures + under the hood pics and possibly even put it on a dyno. Anything more then PLPD is up to the insurance company.

Part of that is going to depend on who you are.

A 17 year old kid (male) walks into the AMA and wants to insure a Skyline GT-R, and he's going to get shot down. A 30 something with a clean driving record, and they'll talk.

My sister's insurance company told her that they wouldn't cover a Civic. Go figure.

I've had insurance co's shoot down my wife and her car, she's a 6 or 7star(whichever) driver, no accidents, one ticket in the past 6 years, she drives a Neon R/T and they shot it down cause it has a CAI on it.

i can't see any insurance company refusing PL/PD on any car for any reason. i'm not sure if it is legal to refuse based on the new grid system in place.

The story I was told was they didn't insure modified cars, I told them if was for fuel milage, cause it sure doesn't add any HP(well nothing that makes an actual difference)

I dunno they prolly figure modified cars are a higher risk for Liability... :dunno:
