Here's my joint experienc with the Westgate body shop.
Girlfriends car got hit outside of school (Grant MacEwan) by one of those paper shredder trucks. Busted her light, bent her hood, busted the side skirt/running board, and pushed in her rad support. The company said go get an estimate to get it fixed where ever they preferred to go, and since her dad had bought a couple of vehicles from Westgate and liked it they decided to go there.
Got the initial estimate from Westgate at the beginning of February, told her it would be three weeks untill they could get her car in. Dropper her car off the third week of February, and they said it would be 2-3 weeks. 2-3 weeks turned into about 6 which wasn't a huge deal as they gave her a free rental and it's kind of expected with labour shortages in our economy. Her Dad is away on business so her Mom went and picked up the car for her, and I saw it later that night to check out the work they did.
The problems were as follows:
- All gaps on replaced body panels were terrible
- Headlight was replaced with a non-OEM light which fit terribly and wiggled in place
- Remote starter stopped working
- HVAC controls no longer worked (It would only blow medium-hot through the dash vents)
- Bolts missing from door hinges
- Side skirts improperly alligned and were audibly rubbing on door when it was opened
- Door was not alligned properly with striker and did not close smoothly
I thought it was a pretty crappy job. Took a bunch of pictures and went back with her the next day to get it fixed properly. Bodyshop Manager was very apologetic and promised to fix all the issues.
Picked it up about a week later and there were STILL issues. Fender gaps were fixed, bolts were replaced in the hinges and the door shut properly, but the gaps on the hood and front grill sucked (I could barely get my finger nail in on the passenger side gap, but I could slide my whole thumb in the gap on the "fixed" drivers side. Headlight was still fitting like garbage and the guy insisted that was the proper fit and we should just deal with it because it was an aftermarket headlight, so we told him tough shit, put in an OEM headlight and make it right.
Got the car back yesterday and all the body work is fixed but now the 4x4 doesn't work. It's got electronic switching, you put it in 4x4 mode and the light turns on but the hubs don't lock and you're still in 2 wheel drive. If it hadn't been snowing out, we never would have discovered this untill next winter and been stuck with a bill to get it fixed at another shop.
So all-in-all, not too impressed. The paint work and panel allignment is fine now, but it shouldn't take 4 visits to get everything right with a simple front end accident. |
