What's the worst car you've ever owned? - Click HERE for Original Thread

ReasonOne
Just curious.

The problem is I've owned so many cars I can't decide what's the worst.......

Prudz_lude
the worst car i have ever owned was a 89 crx. It ran like a dream in every way, but it was my worst.

The worst i have ever drove has been a sunfire.

CKXtreme
87 Chevy Sprint. I dont need to say anything else.

Bluestreak
90 Ford Probe. That thing was a POS.

EK9Hatch
89 Sundace.

Its a tie for me between the cherokee I owned and my GTR

1) 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country (bought on an impulse didnt even brush the snow off it just handed over cash), thought the 4L I6 was gutless on the highway, Very dirty interior, missing face plate, no console lights worked, hideous tint, 5 different shades on the front 3 windows, steering was a little loose and out of alignment, when the snow melted off of it over night, I found out that it had been in a front end collision, and the fender, bumper, grill, and hood were still in primer, the body was so out of shape that the hood could neither be fully closed, or even opened. Needless to say I said goodbye to it after 2 weeks of getting nowhere and having it parked.

2) 1991 Skyline GTR, well there was nothing really wrong with it mechanically, and it was mint inside and out after a good tune-up dusting, but it was old/dated, and worst of all RHD

You had to make sure you could park and drive through, or push the bitch backwards. I lived in Saskatchewan at the time so it wasnt really that bad, at least I knew I would never have to push up a hill in that province

Soulfly
1996 Dodge Ram 1500... Single Cab, short box.. 4x4...

It was SO Sloppy, and got stuck very easy... other than that... it was fine... :p

I am driving my 2wd 05 ranger right now since the STI has summers on, and the civic is getting pwned, and I have to totally agree. It is useless and i hate driving it, The only time I actually use it is to pick up parts, or if mother nature is a bitch like now and i took the winters off the STI early. Only thing keeping it off my list, is because my other two were so much worse, and this one hasnt had any problems yet.

gtaylor
only owned one car, an its pretty good so i cant complain.

driven some bad vehicles tho. work dually in winter with failed 4wd and abs.
or a buddies 88 accord with no horn and 37hpes
all in all ive been lucky with the cars ive driven, but im sure that the future will bring me some shitboxs

Man was that thing a POS.

^^^ Just to give you an idea what it would have looked like new... mine didn't look like this..

Theft recovery, so I had to start it with a huge flathead screwdriver, which led to an interesting time with the police yanking me through the drivers side window... with my seatbelt still on... (They said sorry afterwards), cracked frame rails on both sides, NO air shocks, exhaust separated right behind the collector... it had a 350/4barrel... I lived right behind the police station... the electrics didn't really work... and the power steering never worked... it's was blue on blue with crushed velvet interior... TONS OF RUST..

I finally ditched it when it lost reverse, stupid chain drive transmissions...

^^^ again not mine.. just to give you an idea..

My next worst one was a 196x plymouth FURY II... Baby poop yellow with green-ish plether/rawhide interior.. used it as a bus to ferry all my girls from the temp service to work and back every day... we fit 15 people in it once... bought it from a farmer in Veg for $150.. he had to tow it out of the back forty with a tractor... I hated that POS.

stealth
Well, this is a hard one.

It has to be a tie between a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am 4 Banger & 1985 Chevrolet Blazer.

I also owned a 1998 Ford Mustang, that was a POS.

catlin987987
89 prelude, I had to start it with a screw driver, then the cylinder went so I hot wired for a few months until the starter went. It was carb and it had a cracked exhaust manni, even though it was a pos I still liked it(least out of my 10 or so cars I have owned in the last 3 years)

My1980 Mustang lost reverse gear and I drove it like that for about 6 months before donating it to the Kidney Foundation. Sure was a bitch at times. I mostly parked on slight inclines and let gravity back me out, or parked where I could just drive out. There was a few times though when my passenger and I would open the doors and each stick a leg out to Flintstone it out of a spot. But I digress.

The Mustang was not the shittiest car I ever owned. That honor goes to my 1994 Cutlass Supreme with the worst engine GM ever built (the 3.4L DOHC V6).

* Automatic climate control didn't work sometimes. I ended up somehow figuring out that if I pulled the fuse and cycled the ignition it would work again, so I installed a switch under the steering column so I didn't have to dig in the glove box to get the heat working.
* The composite transverse leaf spring (just like the Corvette!) cracked. $700.
* The diff exploded and left a trail of parts and oil down the road behind it.
* The timing belt went (I guess the previous owner lied about having it done). Thank god it wasn't an interference engine.
* Had a 1L/week oil leak that would have required removal of the heads to fix.
* Went through brakes like there was no tomorrow.

And a whole list of smaller issues.

1984 Lincoln Mark VII Turbo Diesel. Yes one of the three available in Canada. Versace edition too. When I got it in the summer of 2001 it had about 70000kms on it.

elrhyso
1982 pontiac parisienne. would die in the middle of intersections and almost kill me. but it was a sweet winter car, if you slid out and hit a snow bank you would barely notice.

ChromeDragon
That I've owned? Would have to be my '56 Buick. Not because it's a bad car, but its technology is just so outdated that it doesn't compare to the other cars I've owned. Being a highly-modified old car can make it a bit of a pain (extremely low, not the best mileage from a big V8, can be tough to find some parts, etc.)

My Grand AM had a Quad-4, biggest POS. Blew head gaskets like their was no tomorrow.

euro777
1993 golf 4 dr- this this thing was a rust machine and it got broken into 4 times, and to top it off it was an electrical nightmare.

although i think the golf was a POS most of my friends would agree that the 1980 rx-7 i bought for $500 to drive for the couple months that the golf was down and out (mysterious electrical issues???) was the biggest POS. This car was one guys old ice racer and it had a street ported 12a and completely rusted out rear fenders. It was ugly but it still had the heart of an rx-7 so it was a total blast to drive.....sold it for $500 when i got my golf back on the road. i wish i had pics of that little fucker.

Nothing is worse than the "Cadillac V8-6-4".........Nothing.

As for worst car ever owned an '84 prelude. The guy that towed it to our shop just said he wanted nothing to do with it anymore & signed it over.

Graphicdude
My very first car, a 1983 Nissan Sentra Coupe. P-O-S!!!! The heater didn't work in the winter so I had to scrape the INSIDE of my windows to see anything, there was no 5th gear, the seats were cracked and looked like ass and it drank a liter of oil a week. But it was cheap on fuel and it was my first car.

Grace Too
I have two:

1. 1984 GMC S15 pick up. Yes it would always start, but it would never drive anywhere. It hated the cold, and flat out it would only do 150 kms.

2. 2005 VW Passat 4 Motion. The check engine light was perma on. The sunroof worked when it wanted to, and not when I wanted it to. The fact it was brand new and ran and felt like a 20 year old Japanese car.

Cheers,

GT

shortie
bright yellow chevy sprint convertable....

it was my first car, thought it was the shizit because it was a ragtop... that thing was a tin can on wheels, you would shut the door and the whole car would rattle like it was aluminum. The top was a manual pull up/down, and the biggest pain in my ass, and it always leaked at the windows (and in victoria with all the rain, that sucks). it also only had 2 seats, so kiss bringing more than 1 passenger goodbye - which didnt matter, because everyone made fun of it so not like I had friends to truck around in it anyways
on the plus side, it took only 25bucks to fill and would last me 2 or 3 weeks... I think it was 0-60 in at least 30s hahaha

crzyone
85 Chrysler LeBaron turbo. In the short time I owned it I blew a head gasket and fragged the 3 speed auto.

SilverE90
1988 Toyota Camry for me. Bought it back in 98 or 99 as a winter beater since everyone talked about how good Toyota was. Well this thing had 172k and was far from good. It needed a ton of stupid little things fixed all the time and was nickle and diming me to death. Maybe it would have gone forever as everyone told me, but it would have cost me a forture in the process.

Next worst was a 78 Z28. Fun car but seldom ever ran properly either. Main issue was just how old it was plus the 250+km on it.

Ive only owned two cars, so it would have to be my first one. It was a 1990 VW Golf that was gold in color. Rusting out on the rear passenger fender, the windshield wiper would set off when I hit a bump (Really tough to turn off too, the actual switch was broken.. I ended up wiring it to the fuse box with a switch drilled into the dash). Oh, and one winter my rear passenger door was frozen shut, and my friend tried to get her bag out of the back.. ended up ripping off the door handle. Got a new one from a pick your part for 10 bucks! The exhaust had to be completely replaced as the sand rusted it out to the point where I actually drove with no muffler for about 2 months.
It was actually a good first car though - it ran 0-60 in a decent time, had a crank on the roof for the sunroof, two 15's in the back, and some first time fiberglassed door pods. And it had a turning radius of no other car Ive seen.

Sold it to leafybug who has horrible luck with cars, a couple nights later the stereo was stolen and he sold it!

Dan_Gyoba
After I wrecked my first car (Balljoint collapsed on Groat Road. NOT GOOD!) I got a $50 1971 Datsun pickup. It burned oil like crazy. When I got it it only had compression on 2 cylinders (And one of those you could barely call compression) I did a ghetto rebuild on it, and put in used piston rings (I did say ghetto, right?) which at least for it firing on all 4. It might have had 20 rwhp. Maybe. Good thing it was a standard, or I don't think it would have gone anywhere.

I remember having to move a couch in it, and driving down Hwy2 between Morinville and St. Albert at about 35km/h (second gear, floored.) because it would not go faster with the increased wind resistance plus a headwind. I think that went through 2L of oil.

No 2 tires on the truck matched, they were all different. I think there were 3 different SIZES of tire on it.

I got at least 2 letters from AMA starting with "Roadside assistance is no substitute for proper vehicle maintenance..." in the 3 months that I had that truck. The alternator kind of worked, but sometimes the battery would just drain for no apparent reason.

The clutch slave cylinder failed on it, so that it wasn't possible to completely disengage the clutch. I could crunch it into first, and "power" shift (Or it would be, if there was any power, which there wasn't.)

No matter what a POS any other car I have had since then, that was the only vehicle that I had that I really hated. The only reason that I even took it was it was my father's friend who sold it to me, and the $50 price was all I could swing. (Cost more just to register it, let alone insure it.)

I did get the last laugh though, when I sold it for $100, though to be fair, it was in far better condition when I sold it than the hunk of scrap that I'd bought.

Inzane
I won't count my wife's former Sunfire, since I wasn't the one who bought it.

Worst car I ever owned was a '91 VW Golf. Piece of shit. I'm not even commenting on reliability, and it did have its share of problems. It just was not a very well made car at all.

gab
i also have 2
1- 1990 300zx....... this thing was a lemon. i figured they called it a 300 because everytime you turn around it cost another 300 bucks.

2- 1990 corrado g60..... supercharger problems galor!!!

both fun cars, but both pieces of junk.

arabian_ryda
1986 vw golf

got it for 50 bucks and painted it flat black but fuck it was a peice straight ghetto styles.
me sam(stealth) and fadi(spoonin) had good time in it though lool
did a neutral drop once and blew both my tranny and engine mounts and the shift cable ended up doin 20km an hour home down 97st hahaha

but the funny thing is i fucked more girls in that car then any others ives owned

DoubleDown
My first car: 1987 Ford Tempo L. Ran like a champ, bought it for $100, can't complain I guess.

It was fugly, rusted, and gold though haha

RADRIDE
I would have to say my old Yukon Denali. That was the biggest lemon I have ever owned. Drove it for 4 months and traded it for a new STi.

Had like 300,000miles on the thing but he rebuilt the head and still drove it. Well the god dam thing couldn't do over 100km per hour on the highway and it sounded like a cessna taking off, plus it was always on fire. It went through alot of abuse in the bush but you never knew what was goina burn up next.

Then my next stupid move was to buy a brand new Lada in 93. Again it only did like 120 with a tail wind and only burned once under the dash:mad:

My first car...a honda. Two things wrong with it, a hole in the cat, and the brakes at one point, where the brake pad was so worn out, metal on metal, that it just made a high pitched squealing sound. And a huge dent in the side. But I still have it, and still pulls hard! :)

JordanJ30A5
My first vehicle, a 1993 Suzuki Sidekick.

That thing was TERRIBLE!

-It frosted up inside in the winter.
-The heater was weak.
-Top speed of 130km/h.
-Terrible on gas.
-Slow acceleration.
-Awful handling.
-Steering had a huge dead centre.
-Inside door panels were bare metal.

My 1991 3.8L Thunderbird. It was the only car I owned that never needed repairs, but it was a boat and ate gas, yet had no power or driving dynamics to make up for it. I loved it on the highway, but I feel the same way about a Lincoln Continental (a steaming heap). I sold it when I filled my first $70 tank of gas back in 2001.

My '87 is the best car I've ever owned, and it refuses to stay on the road for more than a few months.

sliptank
1994 Ford Mustang.

It was a 3.8L V6 car, which meant that it LOVED to eat headgaskets and sip coolant. In face before you went anywhere you usually had to fill the coolant and check the gas.. also made 17 mpg. So I could make it about 300 kms between fillups and coolant pitstops.. (eventually I broke down and paid 2500$ to rebuild the engine, new heads, new headgaskets, etc.)

It was a B.C. car from Victoria, was advertised as NO RUST, LOW KMS..

Had only 145,000 kms, and a 5 speed stick but found out later that it had been rode hard and put away wet. Most likely was a theft recovery that had been bought, resold at auction, and hopped between provinces so it wasn't branded (never carfaxed it, should have..) Car had wiring issues, began to rust out in the doors, the rear springs were so shot that if you put more than 3 people in the car it would bottom out the driveshaft against the floorpan and you couldn't move it... so eventually that issue rubbed through the e-brake cable and was rubbing a nice shiny spot on my floor.

Had a giant target on it's ass end or something because it was rearended once (10% fault and no points for me because I didn't signal when I backed out, even though I was shifting into forward gears when the speedfreak bitch ran into it) and then was hit and run one week after I had the whole rear end fixed. So it lived with those scars until I sold it.

Now as for shit I did to it, blew the premium audio speakers after I put a deck in it. Hit a low level crossing and fucked the muffler royally (performance mod), hit a raccoon at 160km/h and twisted the rad support something fierce, hit a deer and got a whole new front end replaced and luckily..a rad support! (gotta love no-fault wildlife claims through SGI insurance), taught a bunch of chicks to drive stick in it (explains why the clutch was dead when I sold it)..

The car so nickled and dimed me to death..so as I broke stuff I had no money to fix it. Eventually..I paid 6800 for the car..put in over 5000$ in tires, repairs, stereo.. and got 6200$ when I sold it..but I was upfront about all the problems and the guy applauded me for my honesty..apparently he still owns it and drives it, after doing all the repairs.

I could go on about it, but I'll stop.
Only other thing I got is a picture of it about two weeks before it hit the deer....

I like the colour!

Mine hasn't been as bad as yours had been.

They get such shitty gas mileage. In the summer if I use A/C I can except a good 12mpg. Normally I get about 16-18mpg. I had a front spring that was shot, but put a new spring in but still have 3 others to put in (soon). Currently I need to change my water pump.. it's been a bit of a money pig but I haven't had to do anything major.

It's an auto, and would be a lot more fun if it was stick but whatever. :dunno: Bought it for a good price about a year ago, and it's my first car :fingersx: Might also be slow but it does have adequate power, and it just helps keep me out of trouble.

No, what am I talking about? My '91 Grand Cherokee was the biggest POS I've ever been in. We paid more in repairs in the first six months than we did on the purchase. We worked out that our payments on the Vue added up to around $100 more for the year than we had spent on repairing the GC the year prior.

I really hated that thing.

Yeah, for as much as I bitch about that car it was fun to drive and there were many good times had with that car.

We took it offroading in the winter once behind my buddy's 92' F150 4x4. I'd just put the winterforces on it and it had snowed like a foot and a half, so he would break trail with his truck and i just would creep along in the shallow stuff, and try to build up speed to hit the deep stuff. it was fun as hell, but then I had to dig snow outta the engine compartment and from around the rad after..

By the way, if you need any parts or help anytime, gimme a shout... I own another V6 ford so maybe we should start a 3.8L/4.2L club (the 4.2L is basically a "stroker" version of the 3.8L..popular swap for those V6 mustang owners that grenade their engine.)

oldraven
Short of swapping in a 3.8L SC, I'll never understand why anyone would modify a 3.8L Ford.

BananaBoy
I just got a Jeep Nitro (with 3000km on it) for a company rental last week and it was the worst new car I've ever driven. Slow, loud, guzzled gas, sloppy steering, hard seats and the interior looked and felt like it was built in the 80's.

Word, I have always wanted a SVT contour, my friend jay turbo had a black one tinted dropped on black racing heart 18" wheels, that was awsome to cruise in, and wouldnt mind a similar one, either in black, or that burnt red color. Or a tracked out one for SCCA racing

I have only owned 1 vehicle my 92 F-150 2wd 302 and what a story it has turned out to be.

The former owner put 4 differant shocks on all 4 tires.

was running the 302 on 3 liters of oil! it takes 5.5! the oil had not been changed since 8000kms since I got it.

had one fucking nasty oil leak. went through a liter or two every 5 days!. The leak was caused by him bottoming out and hitting the oil pan. the oil pan warped a bit and got cracked on the bottom and he patched it with bondo. the engine had original plugs wires rotor and cap and coil. the airfilter was black. muffler was rusted BAD.

so one cold air intake one good tune up nice new oil change new oil pan and gasket 4 new shocks short dual exhaust 4 brand new shocks. I get decent mileage no OIL usage I did find a coolant leak the water pump is fucked but thats easy. and enough power to get me in trouble.

Its 2wd and after the winter we had I looked at getting a 2004 Lariat F-150 4x4 and was in the process of going to buy the truck when I got laid off. fuckin DELL.

probably the least reliable car I have ever driven. I've replaced close to everything short of the turbo's throughout the entire car. I don't think an original piece is left except body panels..

LHD? How many km? How many owners? What'd you pay for it? etc. As others have found the Z32 is not a car to "cheap out" on when you're shopping for one. If you were looking at a couple and one was asking significantly more than the other, there was probably a good reason for the higher asking price.

I've seen it time and again where a guy's just looking to get into the cheapest one they could find, and it ends up biting them in the ass. This is not a car you want to do that on.

Now, as far as the car in general goes, it is not an unreliable car. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Bad luck.

That pretty much refers to every car out there. You get what you pay for.

It was a 1991 RHD Z32 with 68k on it and it was just shy of 10k.

I got the Tyee Imports tuesday special...

Grant is a piece of shit. He reimbursed me some money but not even a quarter of what was wrong with the car when I got it.

That's the problem right there. Without getting into a whole JDM debate, most of the Z32's that I have seen come over from Japan are hurting. Of course, there are a few that are just perfect.

For me it was a 96 dodge neon , Something was constantly broken , i think something was wrong with the ECU or oxygen sensors cause it was worse then my 240 on gas , and the day i sold it the starter died when the new owners came to pick it up , it wasnt even in my name anymore and it broke on MY driveway .
