Why do you work? - Click HERE for Original Thread

It's a simple enough question...

I go for personal satisfaction over money. There is no ammount of cash that can motivate me to put up with assholes and stress. So I'd rather make 10bux an hour doing what I'd like to do, than 25/h doing something that makes me want to kill myself...

I suppose I could've added "Both"...

Oh well

personal satisfaction knowing that im not working the system like some people that constantly claim WCB or welfare cheques and rely on social services. if the people claiming welfare actually had a job regardless of how little it payed, i wouldnt look down on them compared to those that squat and collect.

money. that doesn't mean i don't aim for a job that isn't personally satisfying.

Hard Choice. Sure, personal satisfaction does matter, but at the end of the day, I work for money.

If money didn't matter, I would concern myself with something a little more philanthropic.

Although what I do does actually help better the lives of my customers, if there was no money in it, I'd be out fairly quick.

So.. personal satisfaction is important, but I'm not running a non-profit charity, so I'm voting money.

Why do I work? To have the luxury of purchasing the things I want and to be able to LIVE comfortably. This question is a bit confusing. Are you asking if we had a choice, what would we work for? Or given our lives as of right now, why we work? Clarification needed.

I personally don't want to work at all, if I could. I would rather spend my time doing things that are more beneficial to my life like; restoring a car, golfing 3 times a week, drawing & painting, honing my cooking skills, sleeping in until 9am....

i work because i need money to pay bills, to eat and to survive, if i could live off 10$ an hour working at a golf course i would but life doesn't allow that, work is gaysha

I suppose I could have restated it as, would you rather work for money or satisfaction? So ya, if you had a choice to either do what you like for little money, or do something you dislike for a lot of money...

Moreso, is it the paycheck alone that drives you, or do you need the sence of accomplishment at the end of the day.

Sorry for being so vague.

Right now its money money money.. but Im moving that to personal satisfaction. Its not worth the money to always be away from home.

For me money comes first and foremost, I like the lifestyle I lead, and would like to continue it. That said, if I feel no personal satisfaction in what I do for a living I would likely no take the job.

When I think personal satisfaction, I do not think about a relaxed or easy part time job, but a job that challenges me to both stimulate my mind, and stive to be the best in the field because I enjoy the satisfaction of knowing I did a job better than anyone else could have.

If I didn't need money I probably wouldn't work, so for this poll the answer is money. But at the same time I won't work myself to death just to get ahead and have that bit extra money. I need some balance.

I would choose to do what I like for less money. I have been down the other road and hated it.

i work for money, money pays for my car, it pays for all the extra stuff i have, it pays for me having a good time/fun/parties so in turn I also receive personal satisfaction.

Agreed... and car parts to buy.

I work for money, because money supports the lifestyle I choose to lead.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm sure we could all think of jobs (or lack of a job) that we'd rather be doing but can't because it doesn't allow us to live our lifestyle.

LOL!!! I've actually had to use that line on some clients of mine when they bitched about my rates... which is sad considering I'm undercutting everyone else....

They all want their computers to run perfectly all the time, when something breaks they call me, I fix the issue then they figure they don't have to pay again when they break something else... friggin USERS!!!

I'm sort of on the fence with this.

I get paid well at my current job. I could get paid probably about 20% more, but I like my company, my work environment and my perks. The job is a fucking walk in the park and I get on well with my boss.

I can come into work whenever I want and put in my 8 hours. I get flown back to Canada 2-3 times a year for free (over $7000 in flights), they pay for pretty much all my expenses in Germany and I'm one of the more senior people in the company which gets me a lot of leeway.

My friend used to work for my company and moved. He was getting paid shit so he moved and started at a new company. He's currently making more than I am, but he gets worked like a horse. I don't think that's worth the extra 20%, imo.

I make enough to get by somewhat comfortably. To give up peace of mind to get a little more cheddar? I think not.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, I have to make a certain minimum to be comfortable. I'd sacrifice a bit of happiness to get to that point -whether it meant I work more hours, hate my boss, etc., etc. After that point, however, I won't be as liberally sacrificual with my freedom and peace of mind.

I can't possibly work and not feel satisfaction at the end of the day, but I do have champagne tastes. I would take less money for a job that I love.

For me it's money. While I'm young, I'll fight through the highest paying job I can come across.. so that I can build somewhat of a base to work with.
After I get my degree though, that will change. My career will be something I love for sure.
