Illegal Car - Click HERE for Original Thread

Mr.R
I got pulled over this past weekend for my cat-back exhaust and clear corners. He threaten to impound my car and give me a ticket. But he said he was having a nice day so all he did was escort me home cause my car was a hazard to the road. I know that I can get a ticket for my exhaust and clear corners but my question is: Can the officer impound my car for my exhaust and clear corners?

Yup. Your car can be impounded for numerous reasons including anything on your car that contravene's the traffic safety laws.

Quick ques., what do you mean by 'clear corners'? Thanks

I think he's reffering to the signals in the front of the car, on the corners. They are clear.

Nightstalker
most clear corners remove reflectors and therefore make your car illegal to drive on the road.... I was driving around with no dash lights for about 4 months or so... thats another reason if they catch you at night not being able to tell how fast you car is going =)

I got pulled over in Manitoba in my beater Festiva, exhaust fallen off past the manfold(from jumping it, sounded like a f*cking chevelle or something) one headlight and corn light busted out,one of brake lights didnt work due to wiring probs, which also made the headlights only go on if you used the high beams. Dash lights were gone, hood wouldnt latch and the ONE side view mirror it had, the mirror part fell off. Manual windows had stripped inside so the windows wouldnt roll down. Had to open the door when the cop pulled me over. Told me to get my light fixed and thats it!!!!

Nightstalker
he likley felt EXTREAMLY sorry for you.. I know I do

DeathBy240
Yeah i only paid 200 bux for it... sold it to a 14 year old for 125 to make it into a dune buggy.

ahaha festiva.. horrible..

The police can impound your car because they feel like itl.. if they cant pin ya for something legit they'll throw a stunting ticket your way and tow your ass to the impound. Dont attract attention and you'll be fine :)

and yes, if you have clear corner lights, and your signals are not red/yellow, then its illegal. If your muffler outlet is larger than the inlet, its illegal as well. I have no idea why, but apparently it is.

I think the factory Dodge Rams with the Cummins powerplant use 3.5 from the factory. If what you are stating and what I am stating are correct, then that law is gonna get thrown out real quick.

SplineZ
it depends on the displacement of the engine i think?

I should hope so, stupid laws should be putout... i dont see how a large exhaust can make an officers job more dangerous, how its more dangerous to others, or as distracting as a loud harley or disiel truck.

The people that make laws don't have all the facts.. IMO 90% of the best laws I have ever seen or heard of as far as cars go are in place in Cali.. theres actually pretty much all make sence.. all though a lot of us would have to change a lot on our cars to get permission to driver there.

I just don't get it. The exhaust issue should be a NOISE offense, if anything. Not a traffic safety offense.

Everything I've seen on the highway traffic act, etc. regarding exhausts and mufflers suggests it has to do with noise. I don't see how it has anything to do with the safety compliance of the vehicle.

Government likes your money, plain and simple.

Flex
The exhaust law doesnt state anythign about size. It just talks about enlarged opening of the exhaust. IMO it is very unclear as to what they mean.

Nightstalker
You should try reading the firearms act.. its a LOT worse..

I think the limit should be decibles. The whole idea of limiting size is kind dumb IMO.

That would work in an ideal world. In the real world they would have to write alot of tickets to generate the revenue to afford a portable decibal meter for every cruiser.
