illegal to resell certain vehicles? - Click HERE for Original Thread

shortie
aight, so I was talking to this dbag dealer who insisted he was working hand in hand with amvic and other agencies on the whole JDM ban and pwnage... anyways, he INSISTED that they are working on passing a law that it would make it illegal to resell privately any JDM's and also that there is already this law passed for some sort of Suzuki (sidecar?? tsunami?? he gave a few different names) that were completely legal to have, except made illegal to resell and pass on title.

is this guy completely full of shit?
He told me off for importing "another one of THOSE into the country" (rhd's) and that by the end of the year he is working with "them" (whoever they are) to make it illegal to resell and I will just have to destroy it and it will be worthless by next January so I should just kiss it goodbye right now. He also mentioned how BC has already passed this law, as of Dec 31st 07. and that dealers cannot legally sell rhd's now either...

Is he missing some screws, or possibly partially onto something? I don't see how or why they can make it illegal to privately resell any vehicle that is legally in the country and legally on the road
:dunno:

That would be to funny if that was true, there would be alot of pissed off people out there

Prudz_lude
he is missing some screws and doesn't know what he is talking about. I have a friend i used to work with at toyota who is now the owner of an importing business in Vancouver.

euro777
the only time i have ever heard of this was with trikes, i heard you can have them but you cannot sell or buy them anymore.

i have no idea how true this is??

Missing more than just a few screws if you ask me..

shortie
yah he did say something about trikes as well, which I understand, but he insisted a law was passed in BC in December already for JDM cars... I was sure he had lost his marbles, but figured I would see if anyone had heard of this being the case in BC or if it was even possible, as I am sure he has just lost his mind :dunno:

I kind of want to go talk to him again to bop him right in the head for being a big giant douche. but then again, why bother.
This was out of the mouth of a dealer principal of a large dealership, of all people, you'd think they would want to be legitimate and semi-pleasent to people

I call BS

My first call would be to AMVIC to verify this, and if it is not true NARC the mother….

Answer this question.

Can you purchase a vehicle from a private seller that has been written off?
Can you purchase parts from vehicles from a private seller that have been written off?
Can you let your insurance/registration lapse and keep your vehicle on private property ie) garage or a farm and not parked on the street and then rerigster it later if you decide to put it on the road?

If you answer yes to any of these questions I would be all over this clown like a raped ape.

Do not put up with this crap. Take these mofo’s out one at a time.

Not always the case,

They can ignore you and hope they go away. Sadly these bozo's do not realize who is connected to who. In the end, they only hurt them selves.

BLOCKER
There have been some concerns regarding older RHD cars that have been imported from Japan that do not have proper bumpers, however, they have been able to get them into canada because they were over 15 yrs old. I was reading about them on the RIV website. I have not heard anything about making them illegal to sell once imported.

Checked thanks.

Interesting read... I smell a scam and a way to keep the AMVIC dealers profits protected.

But it still does not say anything about transfer of ownership or selling them. The article addresses just why it "will not pass, or here is why you can fail them" on the inspection.

XtraX
well there's the letter.
Thanks Blocker.

shortie
thanks guys
I knew he was an assclown, and knew for sure he was full of it and this could never be so, but figured might as well see what others think hehe
Maybe he just thought he could talk me into getting rid of the jdm and buy one of his shitty korean cars? :dunno:
apparently I do look like I was born yesterday....

BLOCKER
