Corrective Eye Surgery - Click HERE for Original Thread

BARNSEY
Has anyone had this done? I'm looking to have this done, as its covered 100% by my insurance plan. Does anyone know of any reputable, trustworthy doctors to do this? Looking to have it done by the best in the city as it doesn't cost me anything, and my eyes, just like anyone else's are very important to me.

Thanks!

I had it done last August, and the only regret I have was that I wish I would've had it done sooner! I went from like 20-400 vision to 20-15. I went to VisionMed in Kingsway mall. Its not one of those cheapo places, but laser eye surgery isn't something you really want to cheap out on anyways. They give free consultations, so call them up.

Lasik MD was pretty awesome with me.

Just make sure you ask lots of questions and find a place you feel comfortable with.

When I was researching it I went and got consultations at both Lasik MD and Clearly Lasik. I ended up going to Clearly Lasik even though it was an extra $400. My surgery total was $3200. The one thing I liked about Clearly Lasik is that Dr. King was one of the founders of Clearly Lasik and had a ton of experience. I did some research on him before going in as well.

Clearly Lasik has the same equipment as Lasik MD however they have a newer machine as well. They also have what they call Intralase where they do not use a blade to cut your eye. everything is done with the laser, unlike other places.

I had my surgery done one month ago with no side effects. Immediatly after the surgery my eyes burned and watered a lot which is normal but I went home went to sleep and woke up about 5 hours later and it was all gone and I felt perfectly fine. My vision went from 20/400 to 20/15 (What a normal person sees at 15 feet away I see at 20 feet away.)

I recommend going to get it done sooner than later. It is one of the best things I have ever done I think.

Good luck!

My mom had it done in one eye. Apparently thats all she needed, and the brain would adjust itself.

It does not grant immediate results like many tv shows and commercials state. It can take up to like 2 months or somthing like that before you get full results.

Clearly Lasik Downtown +1

They wont take me as I'm "not old enough". Whatever. I'm alerady blind as a bat, how much worse could I get.

Myself and my wife had it done at Gimble.

Great experience.

I was at -4 as well. Two things that remain..
- nighttime vision,a slight halo depending on the type of lights on the roadway.

-When I am at a bar and the black lights are on, it bothers my eyes.

I would do it again in a heart beat.

My vision is 20/20 and 20/15 as well.

there was something on cbc about laser eye surgery today. iono if theres a link but it look like there were ppl complaining bout double vision and other shiet.

3 members of my family have had nothing but praises from the gimble clinic in calgary, unfortunatley, with -9.75 in one, and -11 in the other, my eyes are pretty fucked, beyond what lasik can do so I would still likely need glasses after surgery.
I have family in Europe that have been getting a new form of lense implant where it is a lense they semi perminalty afix to your eye, but can be removed or changed to a higher or lower prescription if needed. Only problem is that it hasnt moved over here yet, since this is really the only opertunity for me to wake up and not have to put on glasses to see my alarm clock a foot infront of my face.

I really regret not eating my carrots when my mom told me to lol

I am currently saving up for it..

in the 60s they had a different method for it:

Can Laser eye surgery correct for depth perception? I have 20/20 vision which means I'm all good and fine for reading crap, but my depth perception is beyond terrible.

I had corrective surgery in 1995. It was Lasik and my eyes where -14.5. I wore no glasses or contacts for 7 years. Man that was great since I wore thick glasses for 15 years before that. Now I just wear a light pair, Im like a -2.5 now. I had this done at the gimble clinic. My wife had it done a few months ago also at the gimble clinic. we both love it and have no regrets.

They do have the lens implant at the gimble clinic and that is an option I want to look at. Only problem is the price tag is about 10g's

Ya I went down there for a consultation, and with my astigmatism, horrible prescription, and pupil size or something they said I would not walk away with close to perfect vision (coming right from DR. Gimble) he then proceeded to say that any other clinic that tells me I will have 20/20 or better with no side effects is BSing. I didnt realize that they had started doing implants down there now, 10g's is steep, but it is quite tempting, just hold off on the civic for a while or something

100% coverage? shiet. tell me more about yer insurance plan!!

BARNSEY
It's MRP coverage through greatwest...they cover me 100% on this type of eye surgery. Also i get 100% dental, medical...all that. It's pretty steep per month but if you make full use of it it is worth it for sure!

Thats weird, Dr. Gimble did my surgery himself. I have an astigmastism, had a really bad perscription and i have large pupils. Yet he did mine and I walked away with 20/20.

My mom had it done a while back, she had shit night vision before, and still has shit night vision, but doesn't need glasses.

I thought about it, but back when I thought about it there was still the risk of loosing night vision, and i do a lot of night driving/after dark(winter) driving so, yeah no... then I thought about it again for snowmobiling... my glasses keep fogging up.. then i watched the "How's it made" show for lasik and the whole using the cheese slicer thing to open the eyeball up and then do the laser thing... Umm no I know sure they freeze your eye...but freezing doesn't reallly work on me, they'd have to knock me out to do it.

My sister had eye problems with scar tissue and stuff... she had many surgeries then they ended up putting new lenses in the back of her eyes or some shit.. now she has perfect vision

JordanJ30A5
I'm also considering getting it done.

My eyes are -1.50 in the left and -0.75 in the right. I'm tired of not being able to read street signs until I'm close to them without my glasses (which I never wear for anything but driving).

#1 Does anyone know of Lasik on the southside?
#2 Do they do an eye Exam or do I have to go and get one on my own?

Lukesky
I'll be looking at Clearly Lasik or Lasik MD more than likely. I have -4.5 in my left and -5 in my right, with a slight astigmatism.. hopefully I can get near perfect.

I read somewhere that there are advocate groups out there that are educating the public more about the possible risks of having laser surgery. They claim that the possible risks are often overlooked by the govening bodies.

Apparently the success rates are quite high and many report having good to excellent results from Laser correction but there are many others that report having very poor results and side effects such as "seeing 2 moons at night" " nasty halo effects" extremely dry eyes and discomfort".

At one point they even mentioned a young man committing suicide because of deterioration to his vision post laser corrective surgery. Dont know if he had any other mental illnesses but was reportedly a prosperous law student that was doing very well up till he had his eye surgery. Left a suicide note saying that he could not go on because of his deteriorating vision which made him fall deeper into depression.

All my friends that have had it done says it working out quite well. Im still skeptical.

Did you read that post that Mike posted? Yes, there are risks, but if you read the article, some people went ahead and did the surgery even though it wasn't recommended, etc.

FunnyJr
No, whos Mike?

My girlfriend wanted to know what kind of feeling it was during the surgery and do they know you out or something? What kind of treatment was needed after the surgery? How long did you have to wear eye patches for? She is not too sure if she wants to do it.

It's kind of freaky because you're awake and your eyes are open, but there's not really that much pain, and your eyes just feel a little dry for a bit (couple days, but eye drops help).

The patches are only on for 45min IIRC, then you wear eye covers for 2 days when you sleep.

Tell her it's MORE than worth it.

You are fully awake for the surgery except they give you a valium or there is another one I forget what it is called which is the one I took.

Pretty much you go in lie on the operating table and they start the surgery. You see them do everything and it's over in less than 5 minutes. There is pretty much no pain at all during the operation. There is a little bit right after the surgery but if you just go home and go to sleep which is possible after taking the valium then you will wake up and that little bit of discomfort will be gone.

Tell your gf that the surgery is more than worth it and look up videos on the internet and just read up on it as much as possible. I am sure all the people she talk to about it will have good reviews and say their biggest regret is not getting it done sooner.
