I just received my first bill from Direct Energy.

Besides the $200 deposit, does this look resonable to you? My house is in Macewan and I have not moved into it yet since I took possession Mar 28. The themorstat has been set to 16C since day 1.
My parents house here for that similar time period is $3.99/GJ...but their provider is Epcor. |

I just happen to have my bill here with me.
Your cost/GJ is good but that usage is high either it's a really big house or you have a big leak.
Just an add on here, I have an 1100 sft 2 story, sits between 21 & 23 most of the time. New furnace and from Feb 29 to apr 2 I used 2.96 GJ |

Mine's 1836, 2 story. Maybe not having blinds to keep in the heat makes a diff too? :dunno:
Are you referring to actual gas leak...or u're talking about leakage between edges of windows and stuff? |

| a leak like a open window or door. Or they maybe using an estimate based on previous months usage. That always fucks you up. |

I agree with the others.
These guys can lick my nuts.
In the summer when I have my furnace and gas shut off, I still get bills for "fixed costs"
I do not use any gas and I still get a bill from these guys. |

While I agree and know that in the summer you are mainly paying fixed costs, you are probably still using natural gas during the summer. Chances are your hot water tank uses gas. If you have a gas fireplace(s) and you don't turn the pilot light off in the summer you will use gas. And your bbq may run off of it. |

| on average my direct energy bill is only 100$ a month, my epcor is about 150$ |

| that's an awesome price rate! I pay 1/3 MORE per GJ, because I got duped into a contract with "Alberta Energy savings", they aren't saving me shit. My bill is the same as yours and my house is microscopic in comparison to size |

It's all because your last bill (or rather the bill of the last owner) was most likely as estimate rather than an actual reading.
As for who to switch to, you're probably paying the market rate so the price will be the same whereever you go unless you switch into a fixed price plan. |
