I installed my EGR block-off plate today, and took it out for a test drive. No CEL, minimal bogging, might have been limiting my top-end power though... anyways, I'm not convinced that my CEL is off for good yet, but needless to say I drove it hard and usually that's when the light comes on the quickest.
Aside from all that, I was wondering what RPM all your engines idle at when warm (normal temps). Before the plate, I would idle somewhere in the 850-900's (when I wasn't bouncing), and the service manual that I have says it's supposed to be around 700. After adding the plate, it never idled lower than 1000. I'm wondering if adjusting my thottle cable could fix the issue (my idle screw is already all the way in)... what do you guys think? |

Your EGR is only open during high vacuum conditions (idling and cruising) it has no effect on power, it has no effect on octane rating. I believe its function is only to decrease certain monoxides (verification?)
I don't know about honda throttle bodies, but you should have an stepper motor at the base of the throttle body, this is what sets your idle. You want to set your BISS so that your ISC motor is in the neutral position (1/2 retracted). If you BISS is improperly adjusted it can cause idle surge, low idle, high idle and can wreak your stepper motor. Replace the o-ring on your biss screw and try backing it out a couple turns (yes I know that this will raise your idle), turn off the car and restart, try this until your idle is ~normal. |

my idle speed was always around 800-1000 in my lude. no idea why. just always idles high. i might have even set it that way. and with the screw all the way in i think that raises your idle. try backing the screw out a bit and see if it goes down. |

I know what the purpose of the EGR is... and I didn't block it off to gain power or anything stupid like that. I bought the $20 part of ebay to see if it would get rid of my CEL. And so far, I have yet to see my CEL come on.
I will try to adjust the screw later today... last time I did it, I didn't turn the car off. Didn't know that would change anything. I'll keep you guys posted. |
